Shomat (Sho-Mat)

Seer God

Early Existence

Born from the union of Father Sky (Torgurat) and Mother Earth (Ulmatar), Shomat came into existence in the early years after the collapse of the Primordial Pantheon and the fall of the Proto-Elf empire. Standing at 6'2" with dark green skin, long black hair tied back, and sparkling purple eyes that hint at his mystical power, Shomat quickly became a figure of reverence among the newly formed orcish race. His androgynous appearance made him a unique figure among the gods, and his birth marked the beginning of a new era of magic and prophecy for the orcs.   In the early days, the orcish wizards were untrained and wielded magic in a chaotic and dangerous manner. Shomat, seeing their plight, intervened to teach them a new form of magic—one rooted in prophecy and communion with the land. His teachings led to the creation of the first orcish shamans and seers, who harnessed their magic with discipline and reverence for nature. This shift in magical practice quickly elevated Shomat's status among the orcs, as his followers grew in number and power.

During the Orc Empire

During the early days of the orcish empire, led by Krusk the Uniter, Shomat found a sense of approval and pride in the unity and reverence displayed by the orcs. The empire, blessed by various gods, including Grumush, seemed a beacon of hope and strength. However, Shomat's visions began to grow clouded with ominous signs of great darkness approaching—a vision of hellish landscapes and the fertile lands of Oggud Mul turning into barren deserts haunted him. He foresaw a future fraught with peril and tried to guide the orcs to prepare for these dark times.   As the empire progressed, Shomat became increasingly disillusioned. The rise of slavery, with enslaved dwarfs building grand temples in his honour, deeply troubled him. Despite his warnings and prophetic visions of rebellion and downfall, his followers and the orcish leaders ignored his pleas. Feeling betrayed and unheeded, Shomat exiled himself from the orcs and his divine family, distancing himself from the corruption and impending doom he had foreseen.

Fall of the Orc Empire and Shattering

When the enslaved beings rose in rebellion, Shomat's prophetic visions came true, but the realization brought him no solace. He watched in sorrow as the once-mighty orcish temples crumbled and the orcs were slaughtered. His brother, Genalurg, attempted to quell the rebellion but was slain by a dwarven champion. Shomat, foreseeing the ensuing chaos, refrained from intervening. His nephew, Udrok, frustrated by Shomat's inaction and fearing his opposition to a retaliatory strike, devised a plot to rid himself of the Seer God.   Udrok, disguised as a seer, manipulated a conclave of shamans and seers to summon Shomat to the mortal plane under the pretence of empowering him to end the rebellion. The ritual, however, went horribly wrong. The arcane magic used to summon him tainted the land, transforming it into a desert. In a desperate attempt to counter the ritual, Shomat expended all his power, ultimately resulting in his own destruction. His essence was torn apart, leaving behind a crater drenched in the acidic stench of corrupted magic.

After the Shattering

Despite his apparent demise, fragments of Shomat's essence survived, interwoven into the bloodlines of the shamans and sages present at his final moment. These fragmented spirits give rise to rumors that if the shamans and sages atone for their ancestors' sins through self-sacrifice, Shomat could be reborn. However, the dual spirits within these individuals often lead to internal conflict, causing them to avoid one another. When they do gather for conclaves, usually on the eves of war or in times of great strife, these events are viewed with great superstition, as they are seen as harbingers of dark times. Orc chieftains often try to prevent these gatherings, fearing the turmoil they might bring.   Shomat's legacy lives on in the bloodlines of these shamans and sages, his fragmented spirit guiding them in times of need, yet also serving as a reminder of the orcs' past hubris and the consequences of ignoring prophetic wisdom.
