Jockel Schwabhausen
Jockel is the head of House of Schwabhausen which guards the land bridge to Sudland.
After being severely taxed by Holy Emperor Karl Folly he had trouble to maintain his keeps that protect the empire from the realms south of it. Decreased trade on the intercontinental route further worsened the economic misery due to the massive loss of tariffs. Since there was no holy war going on and the sudlanders were mostly at peace with each other, he suspected an increase in smuggling and sent scouts to investigate.
As they found out, that the southern traders smuggled their ware into the empire with the help of the Venecian Merchant Council he traveled to the imperial court to personally address this issue. The emperor didn't believe such severe accusations and wrote a letter of inquiry to the council. He was invited to await the answer at the castle.
As he had expected, the council denied these claims and accused Jockel of trying to claim their right of sea trade for himself. And the emperor closed the matter with a warning for House Schwabhausen, not to disrupt the sea trade and cease their ploys to get their hands on it.
Outraged by the lack of willingness to investigate the matter, Jockel realized that the merchants council bribe the emperor with money they get from smuggling and accused him in front of the whole court. This enraged the emperor and he had him arrested and thrown into a prison cell.
