The Kin (▸ðə kɪn◂)

The Kin are a Racial Group that ranges in the highlands of the Hav in Central Thea, though several of their more diminutive breeds are prolific around the world. They are considered a racial group, owing that there are nine known, distinct breeds of Kin, but what little observations exist suggest that the various breeds occupy specific casts within the larger Kin society rather than form unique societies of their own. Different breeds of The Kin vary in size and height, presumably based on their function, but share common features like thick, grey hides, black manes, and sabered teeth, with no discerning distinction between male or female. The relationship between The Kin and Maneau is unclear but the general consensus across academia is that they are some form of golem that defiles Maneau from their surroundings. This would also explain their incessant and wanton raiding of neighboring peoples.

History

The Kin do not have a writing system and are not renowned for their retrospective traditions, so in the quest to uncover their origins, we have to search the histories of their Ahdequin neighbors for clues that might expose evidence of their past. In this endeavor, we must exercise caution as the brutish and destructive nature of The Kin has placed them in a villainous role in the eyes of their neighbors, stripping any agency they would have over their actions. It is also prudent to remember that the presence of The Kin in these histories is inexorably tied to genocide and the end of a legendary utopian era, which further elevates them to an agent of a greater Will.

The Elven Long Memeory

The Elven Long Memory is presented as an eyewitness account of the arrival and destruction of The Kin with varying degrees of skepticism from academia. These skepticisms are rooted in the historicity of the memory, as many inconsistencies exist between well-established scholarly works based on the condition of the Memory from the time of their writings and the current state of the memory in the modern era. This evidence suggests that the Elven Long Memory is unstable or its interpretation is subject to external influences. Skeptics also cite that the exclusion of access gives Elves sole jurisdiction over the dissemination and interpretation of the Memory that allows them to shape the narrative with prejudice. Regardless of these questions, the Elven Long Memory has been the most consistently referenced source on the subject and has shaped our understanding of the distant past.   The Elven Long Memory maintains that great arks of obsidian and dark steel rained down from the sky over a day and a night across the world. The Kin Plague spilled from them in waves after they struck the ground and overwhelmed everything in their path. The sky succumbed to darkness as The Kin ripped entire forests up to fuel the great forges of industry within the bellies of their arks. The majority of life died off in the darkness and the peoples of the world fell into slavery and despair. The narrative begins to falter after that, with some tellings claiming that some remnant of the most prominent societies were able to take refuge in the Dwarven undermountain while other tellings suggest that the destruction of the Kin Plague was total, toppling even that of the Dwarves.
