Pali

On the First Day, as Koino busied himself building the homes for the first Dwarves (and, some say, forming the bodies of the Dwarves themselves), and Ergasia stoked the fires of her forge to imbue the first Dwarves with life, Pali stood and waited, for this Dwarven Automath knew that where life, creation, and civilization spring up, inevitably the destructive forces of nature, manifested as all manner of ill-tempered creatures, must meet them and try to bring about their ruin.
Pali's wisdom was not for nothing, as the great Beast on the first day heaved itself from the sea in an effort to devour the newly Awakened. While some praise Kator, the Human Automath, for slaying the Beast with her spear, others grant that honor to the Elven Automath Voulisi, with her deadly bow, the Dwarves know that the vanguard was led by none other than Pali, brandishing Tvilling, the double-bladed axe wreathed in flames and made for him by Ergasia, for unlike those others, he knew that danger would always be at hand and thus was prepared for it.   Pali is a stout dwarf of powerful build, with a fiery red beard woven into two long braids, and skin the color of obsidian. It is said that the Deep Dwarves were forged in his image.   Pali is revered as a protector by Dwarves all across The Union. Followers of Pali contend that while others bicker over whether it was Koino or Ergasia who was more responsible for the creation of the Dwarves, their ultimate survival was in the hands of their champion, Pali. Detractors view him as needlessly serious and violent, and even suggest that worship of Pali being central to dwarven culture is a prime reason for their war-like tendencies.   Priests and clerics of Pali practice the domains of War, the Grave (the inevitable result of war), and Light, which his flaming axe brings to the dark places of the world.
