Security Classification: Level 1: Public Access
Introductory Overview: The Living Sigil Network (LSN) is the pinnacle of global communication technology, providing a ubiquitous, interconnected digital environment for information hosting, data relay, and a wide array of user services. The system is comprised of a constellation of globally orbiting satellites working in conjunction with terrestrial high-capacity databanks located in the capital of each nation. The LSN facilitates services ranging from global positioning and traffic routing to universal data access and communication. The name "Living Sigil Network" derives from the constantly shifting orbital patterns of the satellites and the dynamic connections of countless nodes interfacing with the system.
Section: LSN Architecture & Layers The LSN is a multi-layered digital space, with access to each subsequent layer requiring increasing levels of authorization or specialized technical skill.
Layer 1: The Surface Layer This is the public-facing, commercial layer of the LSN, accessible to anyone with a standard terminal (therra-node, computer, data tome). It hosts public netsites, global chat services, and commercial platforms for holo-vid games and other common digital media.
Layer 2: The Restricted Layer This layer contains classified information, specialized services, and controlled digital assets not available on the Surface Layer. Access is gated by credentials, typically in the form of digital Endow Seals (Cyber Seals) attached to a user's profile. This is the layer where registered professionals like Adventurers often acquire restricted gear schematics and mission data.
Layer 3: The Spider's Net An unsanctioned, encrypted layer colloquially known as the Spider's Lair. Established by hackers and irreversibly integrated into the LSN by powerful Circuit-class Mages, this layer is the primary hub for illicit digital commerce. It is accessible only via specialized, non-standard browsers and hosts black markets for illegal weapons, drugs, trafficked data, and stolen goods.
Layer 4: The WeaveNet Layer This is the plane of Full-Dive interaction, where a user's consciousness, via a R.A.T. Tail cybernetic, can directly interface with cyberspace as a tangible reality. The physics of the WeaveNet are mutable and inconsistent; users may experience synesthesia (smelling colors, seeing sounds). Programs and data manifest as physical objects—stories as books, offensive programs as weapons.
Layer 5: The Dark Empty The deepest known layer, accessible only to Circuit-class Mages via a "Digital Spirit Dive." This foundational layer is the root-level of the entire LSN, where the core code of all software exists like a root system. A skilled Circuit can directly manipulate any program from this layer. Mega-corporations hire their own Circuits to build digital fortifications around their software roots to prevent tampering.

//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... Karckess on the LSN. //>_ The LSN. The greatest tech feat the public *knows* about. Almost four-dozen cans of circuitry and crystals circling the globe like vultures, vacuuming up all the data the world has to offer. Don’t get me wrong, I love the LSN for what it can do for me. But as easy as it makes life, it corrupts even more easily.

//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... //>_ Most of the files I'm giving you access to from Dryzor? I pull 'em from this layer. Anything above a Level 2 security clearance is tucked away in here, behind some nasty I.C.E.
//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... //>_ I've done my fair share of deals in the Spider's Net. The corps and law have trouble touching this layer, but that means it's a free-for-all. No rules, no safety nets. Careful what you say, do, or buy down here. A bad deal can get you more than just ripped off.
//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... //>_ Most Chip-slaves just paddle around the surface, but the serious Chip Heads go deep into the WeaveNet. It gets weird down there. Data streams like rivers, firewalls like literal walls of fire, programs taking on bizarre shapes. You can find dreck you're not supposed to, but the place itself can mess with your head. Data-sand pits that'll swallow your consciousness, jungles made of pure information... it's a digital fae-wild.
//>_ If the Spider's Net is dangerous and the WeaveNet is schiz, the Dark Empty is fifty times worse. It's cyber-eldritch horror. They talk about the 'roots,' but they don't mention the 'maws' – strange data-predators that manifest from digital scraps and hunt for more data to consume. And when you're jacked-in that deep, *you* are data.
Utility
The LSN serves as a foundational utility of modern society and the primary infrastructure for most contemporary technologies. It facilitates global positioning for vehicles, provides access to the universal repository of knowledge, and is the backbone for the vast majority of communication devices, vehicle systems, and many household and industrial appliances.
//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... Karckess on LSN's 'utility'. //>_ Understatement of the century. 'Utility' is what you call your water pipe. The LSN is the planet's central nervous system. Nearly everything you touch, from your therra to your toaster, is jacked-in. Makes life convenient, sure. Also makes everything and everyone trackable and vulnerable.
Social Impact
The social impact of the Living Sigil Network upon its full implementation in first-world nations was shattering to external observers. The advent of instant wireless communication from virtually anywhere on the globe fundamentally altered societal interaction. This shift was accelerated as personal supercomputers migrated from handheld devices into temple-mounted therra-nodes, transforming the common screen into a persistent visual overlay integrated into a user's field of vision.
//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... //>_ 'Shattering' is one word for it. 'Addicting' is another. Now millions of people are completely hooked, their therras practically fused to their skulls. They're chip-slaves to an endless stream of holovids, games, and whatever other digital dreck keeps them scrolling. We traded convenience for a worldwide addiction, and the corps selling the hardware and the data couldn't be happier.
Access & Availability
The LSN is available globally to any individual with a compatible interface device. Service is typically provided through subscription-based payment plans with varying fee structures (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or decennial).
//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... //>_ 'Available to anyone' means 'available to anyone who can pay the bill.' Don't forget the subscription fees. Hope your job gives you a discount code, 'cause staying connected costs clat.
Complexity
The Living Sigil Network is, to date, the most complex and expansive publicly known technological system. Its primary backbone consists of 42 orbiting satellites that constantly scan, store, and relay all data transmitted through the network.
//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... //>_ It's the most complex system the *public* knows about. Wait 'til you learn about God Engines. The short and sweet of how the LSN works? The satellites are packed with Resonance Myst crystals to transmit the data dreck. Stasis Myst crystals hold the data until it's needed. Morphic Myst, controlled by programs, alters it. And it's all powered by a fission core with solar backup. Way more complicated, but that's the gist.
