After having had enough carousing for the night, Zaradis and Lannsverg left the Winemar Inn and immediately spotted a shady-looking individual heading into a nearby alley. They recognized him as their acquaintance, the Runesmith Thorkild Lutgerd. They decided to follow him and ended up at a nondescript house, which Thorkild entered. After sneaking into the house after him they found a red cloak with a strange symbol and then Lannsverg eavesdropped on a conversation between Thorkild and an unknown person speaking with a distinctly noble accent. Apparently, Thorkild was playing both the Runesmiths and their employers, house Reinhild, while secretly searching for the tablet for this organization. The mysterious figure then teleported away and Zaradis and Lannsverg were discovered by two men in red cloaks, but they managed to escape them.
The next morning the party reconvened near the Runesmiths' compound and met with Thorkild and Angelica. They decided to continue deceiving Thorkild, who instructed them to go speak to a drunken priest of Hlal named Solomon. Zaradis and Darius decided to do just that, while Dolmir went to speak to his old mentor Yardeag and the rest of the party went to investigate the house they infiltrated the night before. Before leaving Dolmir identified the symbol on the cloak found the previous night as the sigil of the Sect of Task.
After being plied with drink Solomon revealed that the Head Priestess of the local temple of Hlal, Isabelle, knew the location of the tablet and Zaradis went to speak to her. Meanwhile Darius decided to get more out of the poor priest and dragged him into a back alley, beating him until he revealed a back entrance into the temple of Hlal. Dolmir learned that Thorkild isn't considered very trustworthy among the Runesmiths, but they are unaware of his betrayal and the tablet isn't very important to the guild itself, however, the Reinhilds need it for political leverage. In the meantime, Nue, Melvin, Lannsverg, and Angelica searched the house, finding it cleansed of nearly all evidence, except a letter stuck under a bed, which names Thorkild but doesn't connect him to the Sect of Task directly. They then brought the letter to Mistress Tyrelle, the Captain of the local chapter of Kuyutha's paladins, who offered them her help and sanctuary in Kuyutha's Hall.
The party reconvened in the temple district, meeting Maple in the process, and shared the information they had learned. They decided to sneak into the Temple of Hlal through the secret entrance Darius had discovered. After defeating a stone guardian they snuck up to the Head Priestess' office and interrogated her. She mocked them but finally gave up the location of the tablet. Apparently, it had already been found by a group of archeologists from the University of Baymore and is being held in its deepest vaults. After some arguing within the party, they decided to spare Isabelle from further harm, but not before accidentally throwing a table at her. The party then split up, mostly getting out of the temple without issue, but Darius, Maple and Nue were caught by some guards and had to fight their way out, with Darius' face being quite well remembered by a guard who escaped.
