Anarien Eluane
(Also known in this time as "The Raven Prince", and "Inarien" in the Southlands, where "A" spellings are often replaced with "I".)
Anarien stands apart from many of his kin among the Chatillians, not due to unmatched power or antiquity, but because of a singular interest in humanity, unlike most of his people, who typically treat mortals with disdain, cold indifference, or detached amusement. He walks a delicate line between guiding and exploiting human endeavors, and the reticence and even hostility of his kind against any sort of meddling in mortal affairs. Anarien is not immune to the games of power and influence among his own kind, but he has long recognized that the human trajectory in Alterran holds grave threats for the Chatillians' survival.
By the time of King Belgarion's tyrannical reign, it became painfully clear to Anarien that the Chatillians' passive approach would not preserve their waning influence. The expansion and militaristic ambition of Chernaya’s empire threatened to engulf or eradicate anything outside its grasp. Seeing this, Anarien embraced a new course of action: intervention. When he recognized an opportunity within Tashi's family—a powerful merchant guild based in the foreign quarter of Rostova (Sendiir)—he seized it, using their influence to plant the seeds of rebellion. Thus, he helped birth the The Circle of Sendiir, a covert network of resistance dedicated to challenging the Crown’s authority. To outsiders, the Circle may appear to be a purely human enterprise, but beneath its layers lies the cunning of a Chatillian prince determined to steer the tides of history.
Anarien’s methods blend guile and charm with a genuine capacity for empathy, making him an enigmatic figure within the Circle’s ranks. He does not merely manipulate events from afar; he walks among mortals when it serves his aims, building alliances and occasionally lending his powers to key moments in the rebellion. For Anarien, this is no simple game—he sees the fate of the Chatillians and humans as intertwined, and he is determined to ensure his people are not swept aside by the tides of human ambition.
Though Anarien apparently has countless progeny, Danyar Saronovik stands apart as a young half-blood caught in the web of his father's ambitions. From the moment their connection was suspected, it became evident that Danyar was not merely another pawn but a potential keystone in Anarien’s broader designs. Anarien’s interest in Danyar is not only driven by blood but by a belief that this boy may serve as a bridge between the human world and the Chatillians, or perhaps as a catalyst for change in a world teetering on the brink of chaos.
He plays a long game, where every alliance and intrigue serves a purpose only he fully comprehends. The Circle, for him, is not just a tool to destabilize the Crown but a chance to reforge the relationship between Chatillians and humanity on terms more favorable to his people. Whether this makes him a savior, a manipulator, or something in between depends on one’s perspective. To his followers, he is a guiding hand and a potential redeemer; to his enemies, he is a puppet master turning loyal servants of the crown to rebellion, as dangerous as he is unpredictable. Whatever the future holds, Anarien Eluane moves forward with the weight of generations on his shoulders—and a raven's eye on the fate of two worlds.
