the Root

The World Root, or more often just 'the Root', is a metaphysical force of the world of Aldern. Described as roots growing through the world, it is a web of energy that run throughout Aldern, connecting all things. There are several devices and items, Magic that tap into these threads of energy to facilitate communication over long distances.

According to Elf mythology the World Root is the roots of Aterleg and the Elder Tree connecting to each other. This includes the Ama Tree and Umu Tree as well. These roots spread, binding the world together. Over the ages as more trees grew, the root spread creating the network known today. Legend claims the elves could use the World Root to travel instantly between their trees.

The Jenuwan Order has come to understand the World Root is a natural phenomenon of Enur, and its connection with Aldern. Its strongest points are in Feywilds. These 'roots', threats, tunnels, or whatever someone calls them, are conduits through Enur, flowing from one point on Aldern to another. Some are natural and permanent, such as the connect between the elder trees and Feywilds. Others have been created by man connecting locations through magical devices. Those created by people are temporary and used for communication. The elves use of the Root to travel has been lost to history, or more likely a closely guarded secret of the oldest of their kind.
