Rypo Archipelago

Drowned Plashin

Yulfing legend claims that the Piercing Ocean saw the peaks of the Plashin Range and though them the breast of a beautiful sleeping giant. The waters worked up into a hurricane pull the giant into the depths. The storm was able to drown the northern mountains, but the higher mountains south fight the storm away. These storms return each year to try to finish their mission and take the Plashins away to marry the sea. A fanciful myth if there ever was one, but it gives a mindset of not only the Plasha view of origin of the Rypo Archipelago, but most sailors of the Piercing Ocean; a continuation of the Plashins under the sea. Modern scholars dismiss the legends but see the kernel of truth it speak of. It is believed today that the archipelago was once part of the Plashins, but was covered in massive glaciers in the era when ice covered much of the world. These glaciers dug away the softer ground around the harder stone of the mountains. When the ice melted away it took the broken soil out to sea, flooding the deep scars left behind.

The archipelago is made up of eight major islands and at least a dozen smaller islands. Most of the smaller islands are unmapped and only known to the Yulfing. The islands are largely unpopulated but are home to millions of Rypo Seal and dozens of packs of Plashin Wolf. Though no confirmations have been shown, rumors of Orcdwelling on some of the inner islands of Rypo circulate through taverns in Rypost on occasion.
