Mericine Order
Holy Order of the Sisters of Mercy
The Mericines, also known as the Holy Order of the Sisters of Mercy, is a Trijan religious order of the Church made up of Divine Sorcery sorceresses dedicated to healing the common people and those that cannot afford the care of hospitals. Made up exclusively of women, the order was founded in 6572sc, at the height of power for the United Kingdoms of Novyum. The order was established to care for the poor in the Heartlands of Novyum.
In the following centuries the order expanded across the major continent of Ethae, and is one of the few holy orders, along with the Jenuwan Order, that transcend the division between theNorthern Trijan Church and Trijan Church of Jerain, serving both equally, but independently. The order, while still working within the regulations of the Church, is largely independent of the bureaucracy that often slows the Church down in helping those in need. The Mericines are encouraged to place the needs of their patients over the politics of the land or even the Church. Their gifts in healing are considered for all, no matter faith, culture, or race.
As of 6880sc the order have twenty Mercine hospitals spread across Ethae. They have sisters in over 350 churches and temples worldwide. The orders numbers are estimated to be around five thousand sisters serving across Aldern. Half of which are currently risking their lives in the Dark Hemisphere establishing hospitals and spreading the Trijan faith.
Around a tenth of their numbers serves as part of a division of volunteers that travel with military campaigns, acting as non-combatant field healers. In Trijan strong nations the sisters are usually protected by both sides of any conflict, with the Church coming down hard on anyone intentionally harming a Mericine. Casualties do happen, however, and most are discouraged from serving on the frontlines of active warzones. Those that do serve as combat medics, however, are held in high regard by both the Church as many civilian governments, regardless of the side they traveled with. Mericine are known to move around the battlefield healing any they come across, regardless of the affiliation.
Mericine wear the traditional white that nearly all female clergy of the Church wear. These robes are highlighted with embroidery of either white, grey, or black depending on the rank within the order. Those women that volunteer to serve as combat medics are granted shoulder pauldrons and bracers, engraved with grey or black as well as a metal breastplate for defenses in combat situations. The pauldrons and bracers are styled to be useful, but also decorative because they remain with the sister after she leaves the battlefield duties. This is to distinguish that Mericine as a combat veteran who served the wounded. The brestplat is not worn in everyday life, like the pauldrons and bracers.
