Eskern East
Eskern East is the East and Northeast region of the Eskern Forest, made note of by the Weird Lake and its surrounding wetland ecosystem. It is also host to three of the starter villages for the Ninth Summer Wars, Magnolia Town, Juniper Village, and Cypress Town.
What are your non-earth-like geographical features in your setting?
- Pollen Veil
- Brimstone Gigantism
- Dominated by wetlands and a large lake and wetland system known as Weird Lake
- A lot of organic matter here is in a state of rot and not much stays ripe very long
- Unlike Eskern South, there is more light which gets filtered in here but also gets trapped by the waxy leaves, causing what feels like a greenhouse effect even in the open clearings around Weird Lake.
- Fish Oil, which is the accumlation of deceased matter particularly in still waters, which are often noxious and deadly to vertebrates
- Phelgmatic Peatland
What's the "lay of the land” of your active worldbuilding area?
- Comprised mainly of flood meadows, grasslands, and wetlands
- Bordered by Pestilentia to the North
- Bordered by Eskern South and Eskern North to the West
- Bordered by Sealtland to the South
- Dense populations in the islands, which themselves are fertile (alongside the coastal areas), despite the fact most of the lakes around the area are dead or anoxic.
- A lot is grown in these accumulations of living matter near the coasts, feeding off of fossil oils.
- Some hilly territory, but mainly a wetland climate
- A few forest edges that have become exploited due to more light and wind, with pioneer and invasive species
And what is the climate or environment like, in your active worldbuilding area?
- Hot, humid summers and mild winters, no frost
- High humidity and mild, stable temperatures.
- Thick air with noxious gases and damp, unstable ground
- Hazy atmosphere with humidity creates a perpetual twilight or dawn, as well as little overt seasonal variation
Next, What is the ecosystem & habitat like in your active worldbuilding area?
- Islands and coastal areas are populated despite the noxious gases and seem to thrive, with a lot of plant life living there, particularly with sphagnum mosses, reeds, mangroves and magnolia trees
- Deep pools known as "Maud eyes" indicate possible underground ecosystems that run very deep
- Bioluminescent plankton, fungi, and bacteria, as well as early forms of archaeobacteria
- Cypress, juniper, willow trees
- Quicksilver Eels - Electric Eel but with Mercury
- Pitcher plants and sundew plants (canivorous plants)
- Woad, Alisander, Skirret, with the occasional Gall tree or settlement in a grouping of mangroves inhabited by Aphis or Locii nomadic bands
Finally, what natural resources are found in your active worldbuilding area?
- Heavy Metals - Mercury, Arsenic, 'bog iron' which is local to the area and reacts with Brim
- Citron - Humic acid, formalin, wyldefruite but mostly humic acid
- Flint - Quartz
- Brimstone - Sulphur, Kalium, Oxygen Pockets
- Brine - Salt, Evaporite
- Oil - Fish Oil, Fossils, Stomatomites
