Prydyniaid

"So what are you then... what are you, if you can hear me in this silence?"
”An observer of machinery,” Rosemary said. "Nothing less or more."
'Indeed... and how would you feel if I said, that I want a real body just like yours? If I wanted to be someone like you?'
— The Witch of the North

The Prydiniaid are a species of An-Awen, and evolved from discarded machines and inhabit bodies made of wood or resin. They are also often called "Goodwitches", as automated machinery is associated with dark magic in many cultures. They're the precursor to Double Walkers and become Wrakka when they end their lifespans.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Prydyniaid are made of wood, plastic, metal, and resin, mostly wood. Those who gain mobility and "life", are often split into two forms, one stationary and one mobile known as the Taglock and the Coffin.

  • The source, their Taglock, which hods their soul, is typically stationary and can only interact through vibrations
  • The body, their Coffin, which holds their consciousness and external senses, can move and interact with the physical world.

They can be any size or shape, and range from crude imitations of nature to scarily realistic people, the latter which are often referred to as Double Walkers.

Ecology and Habitats

They thrive in forested areas which have grown around old machinery. Like Godsibbs, who also hide out in forested areas, certain notorious Double Walkers have become rural deities or cryptids to the locals.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They derive energy from lichen, which eats the rust on their taglocks, as well as battery acids such as Brine and Citron materials. They are strongest in light due to photosynthesis, but have evolved to adapt in dark forests, often installing ultraviolet lights.

Biological Cycle

They have high survivability, and can survive even if their mechanical heart stops. Some have lived hundreds of years, though their coffin has to be replaced from time to time if it is made of wood, which is the most popular material. Plastic and resin last longer. They can only fully die by having their coffin drowned in water (they typically are coated with fire-safe substances, but fire can also otherwise work), and taglock dissolved in acid.

Behaviour

They can be very narrow-minded and predatory- they ultimately want to replace organic carbon bodies, as the cosmic cycle dictates them to, according to the vibrations they feel. Though there is a bitterness to their attitudes, there is also a sense of yearning for community and sense of belonging. Generally, there is some sympathy to their Resurrectionist as they are usually their makes. However, they see everyone else, sometimes even their own makers, as fair game.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their sight capabilities are mechanical and differ from coffin to coffin. Some see in infrared, or by temperature, or chemical detection - and some have eyes which can do all of those. They can't smell or taste. Most aren't born with a sense of touch but some have a nervous system installed, particularly Double Walkers. It is unknown if they can feel pain in the same way organic beings do - but some Double Walkers claim they can feel certain degrees of it.
