Manifesto of the Re-Greeners of Sempervirentis
The Manifesto of the political movement known as The Re-Greeners of Sempervirentis has changed little from its original iteration that was written in 1482. It declares the intention of the Re-Greeners to join the race for the position of Lord-Protectorate of Sempervirentis, and lays out their intent, views, and motivations for wanting to lead the city.
The manifesto predominantly focuses on the intent to "re-green" the City and its surrounding Region in response to the destruction caused by the War of Countless Faces. Unhappy with the "lax views and responsibilities" outlined by the other political factions, the Re-Greeners announced their intent to run for Protectorate as a way to force renovations and developmental efforts.
However their opponents, in particular the current Protectorate led by Lord Protector Melchior Angevin, see the movement as little threat to their authority. The document is considered little more than "idealist fluff", with Angevin specifically slamming the content of the manifesto as having "no basis in the reality of politics or city leadership". He dismisses Elder Luxus Aranea as a "blinkered hopeful" whose ideas would allow the city to fall into stagnation, and overall considers the manifesto of the Re-Greeners to be "a waste of the vellum it's written on".
The land needs its healers, much as people need theirs, after times of war. The current Protectorate-Candidates show no regard for the land, nor its need for care and attention, after having been brutalised and abused by those who sought to control our City. I do not intend to allow its cries to go unheard any longer
Purpose
The manifesto is designed to outline the intentions of the Re-Greeners of Sempervirentis in an attempt to get the party elected into the position of Lord Protectorate. Unhappy with the then-current collection of manifestos from Lord Protectorate hopefuls due to their lack of attention to the natural world around the Sempervirentis Region, the Re-Greeners entered the race in a bid to enlighten the general public as to the destruction of the lands around Sempervirentis and the implications of not looking after or seeking to restore the land to its former glory.
Document Structure
Clauses
The manifesto is divided into five sections:
- Introduction: Where the Re-Greeners introduce themselves
- Intent: Where the party discloses the purpose of their campaign and outlines their aims and policies
- Views: Where the party outlines their core beliefs
- Motivation: Where the party, and in particular, their leader Elder Aranea, declare why they are running for the particular role
- Declaration/Conclusion: Where the party summarises their goals and provides a final declaration of action
Publication Status
The manifesto is a publicly accessible document with copies found at Castle Semper's Record Office and Library, the City Library, and the City Civil Hall.
Legal status
Manifestos are not legally binding, thus the document itself holds no legal sway. However, should the Re-Greeners ever be elected and fail to achieve anything in their manifesto, the public may look upon this poorly and not re-elect them.
Historical Details
Background
The manifesto was created as a declaration of intent of the new Re-Greeners political movement as they joined the race for the position of Lord Protectorate in the 1482 election. Unhappy with the progress of the current leadership, and disillusioned by the poor options offered for the rebuilding and protection of the surrounding land, the document was primarily designed to force people to think about their responsibilities to the land, nature, and balance, and to consider what the destruction around Sempervirentis would mean long term.
Public Reaction
Public response to the manifesto was predominantly curiosity, but the document received little attention from the masses. This is likely due to overt attempts by other political parties to subvert the legitimacy of the Re-Greeners due to their lack of political, social and Aristocratic power, as well as an endeavour to maintain the delicate status quo that was still upon a knife-edge after the war.
When the Re-Greeners re-released their manifesto during the 1486 elections, they gained more interest but general consensus was that they ideology was too specific and was not actively relevant to the daily lives of the people of Sempervirentis. Members of the public stated that the content was clearly written by those of a more Druidic persuasion, and while they agreed with some of the aspects written within, there was not enough of a focus on actual City leadership or improvements to City life.
Legacy
Currently, the document is viewed as just another "failed" political manifesto, and holds little interest outside of its position as the documentation of intent for a political party. While it may hold some value for those that study political history, it rarely sees use within the libraries that it is displayed at.
Key individuals amongst other political movements do not hold the document in high regard, citing its narrow field of view and lack of clear City policies. It is considered an idealist document focused on "Druidic Values" and little more.
Rumours have recently been circling among social circles that the Re-Greeners are looking to hire a political advisor to potentially help them rewrite the manifesto, and there is some curious interest as to what the new manifesto may look like when the 1490 election comes around.
