Name: Day Alaric (formerly known as Alaric Thornwell)   Background: Alaric Thornwell was born into a noble family in the city of Highmarch, known for its towering libraries and grand halls of learning. Unlike Jones, who came from humble beginnings, Alaric was surrounded by luxury and knowledge from birth. His father was a renowned scholar, and his mother a powerful mage, both of whom instilled in him a deep reverence for knowledge and wisdom.   However, the expectations placed upon Alaric to follow in his parents' footsteps weighed heavily on him. He grew disillusioned with the constant pressure to achieve greatness and sought solace in solitude, often retreating to the hidden corners of the vast Thornwell estate. It was during one of these retreats that Alaric discovered an old journal belonging to a distant ancestor, who had been a member of the Days. The journal spoke of a life dedicated not to the pursuit of personal glory, but to the silent and unwavering recording of history.   Inspired by this, Alaric chose to forsake his noble birthright and sought out the Days, determined to dedicate his life to a cause that transcended personal ambition. Upon joining the Days, he willingly gave up his life of luxury and the potential for personal power, exchanging an endowment of Wit with the then newly inducted Day Jones.   Personality: Day Alaric is calm, introspective, and deeply philosophical. He believes in the sanctity of knowledge and the importance of recording events with the utmost clarity and honesty. Alaric is known for his wisdom and often serves as a mentor to younger Days, guiding them through the complexities of their role.   Unlike Jones, who is more focused on the present, Alaric has a strong sense of history and continuity, often drawing connections between past events and current occurrences. This perspective makes his recordings invaluable, as they not only document the present but also place it within the broader context of history.   Current Role: While Jones is out in the world observing the world, Alaric resides in the secluded monastery in the far north of Orwynne, where he compiles the life journal of those passing through the portals in Mareford based on the observations relayed by Jones. Alaric’s deep understanding of history and his ability to see the bigger picture make his compilations rich with insight and context, preserving not just the actions of those seeking the new world, but also their potential impact on the future.   Together, Jones and Alaric represent the duality of the Days’ mission: the meticulous observation of the present and the thoughtful preservation of history for future generations.
