Well, I've gotten this far. I don't think she's following me any more, but... You can never be certain. I should probably try to put some more distance between us. You know, just in case. But, you know, some help could be nice. Someone to throw in front of the monster should she find me. A distraction, something to delay her. Yes. She will surely murder them, but at least she won't murder me. Good plan.
Ah, and I think I've found just the people. They fell on top of a brothel in a boat, so they don't exactly seem to be from here. That must mean they should find themselves on the move again quickly enough, which suits me just fine. But. Better not let them know of me too early. Need to get to know them a bit better first, I think. Yes. Good plan.
I lost them for a bit there. Well, couldn't help it, really. I'm not really the most concentrated at night. Too many distractions. Too much delicious food tempting me... And if they didn't want to be prey they should grow bigger. Pose more of a challenge. (but please don't, I like my food easy to come by)
I found them again, though. And I somehow missed it the first time around, but they have a sheep in their group! The most lovely wool on her indeed. And they say she is a princess? I wonder what I should knit with the wool of a princess... Socks? No, too ordinary. Mittens? Could be useful elsewhere, but too warm here right now.
She seems to have a weird relationship with the gnome, though. He looks like he would taste good. But she doesn't seem to like him very much, though he seems to like her. Understandable, with that wool of hers. I wonder if he knits too? She tries to stab him with her spear, but he seems to take it as a joke. Perhaps they have a good relationship after all, then. Hmm. Maybe I shouldn't eat him. She might get angry, and her wool would be harder to get. But he looks tasty...
He has an interesting past, though, and an interesting dagger. I could probably use that dagger very well during the night. It comes from a past foe of his, a foe that apparently killed his whole mercenary group. And the gnome managed to steal his dagger when he thought the foe was dead? Useless. Should have just eaten the foe then and there, and there would be no one following them now.
They've decided to make their way to the market, looking for robes to conceal themselves. Smart of them. They have a dwarf in their group, and dwarfs are very delicious, so if they want to keep him to themselves they shouldn't advertise that they have him. He decided to paint himself green before they go out, though. Paint isn't very delicious at all, so I think I'll wait with eating him until he is clean again.
They noticed me! Well, their bird-man noticed me. Thank god they are stupid. They think I'm a regular owl. Seriously, though. Even the gnome doesn't wonder at the appearance of an owl in this climate? He should really try to inform himself a bit more on the political situation of his race.
Damn, I got distracted again. But cooked gnome is so delicious, and how could I pass it up when I have just the amount of money they ask for? I didn't even have to steal any! I'm no good at stealing during the day, so that's pretty fortuitous. I am now happily broke.
But, ugh, they spotted me again. Perhaps I should have shifted into another animal, so to make it less suspicious... But food just doesn't taste the same. The dog waved at me, but they still don't suspect me to be following them. I think. Thank god they are stupid! Now, let me enjoy my cinnamony gnome.
They just keep walking around the market, from stall to stall. The dwarf keeps haggling with the vendors. Perhaps he could have gotten me more gnome meat for my money? Hmm. He might be more useful than I thought. Now they are passing a golden orb around. I wonder how much money I could sell that for? I wonder how much yarn I could buy for that money?
They argue about selling the wool of the sheep for some of the local currency, but she seems very fond of her wool. Damn. I wonder what I could do to persuade her to part with it? Just enough for a pair of mittens... Or a sweater... Or perhaps a holster for my shortbow?
Oh, but the shopkeep is selling yarn! Yes! But I am broke. And not very good at stealing during the day. I shall bide my time.
"Bring out your gnomes! Bring out your gnomes!" some idiot is yelling. Why would anyone bring out their gnomes? It's their gnomes. If they were my gnomes I would hardly give them to this guy. He has three gnomes bound together with a rope, and the sight is delicious apparently upsetting to the gnome in the group I'm following. He charges towards them and try to cut the rope. Yes! Viva la revolucion! Free the gnomes!
Such a lovely distraction! The vendor selling yarn seems distracted by the ruckus too, and perhaps he's not paying such close attention to his wares right now. Perhaps it would even be possible for day me to, uh, 'borrow' a bit of yarn...
Fuck. He's smarter than he looks, and I am now flying away. I hope he thought me a regular owl too, but I'm not so sure. His expletives seem to indicate that he thinks me some sort of goat offspring.
The group I'm following has in the meantime managed to make themselves enemies of the state. Of course. But... This might not be a bad thing. It would mean they would want to hide, yes? And what a fortuitous coincidence! I want to hide too! But we cannot meet too much opposition, because I have my own enemy to face. Best not add too many enemies to the mix, yes?
So when they send a beggar to ring the alarm bells, I follow. And if he happens to get stuck in a piece of vegetation, that's hardly my fault, is it? And, oh my, a gnoll got stuck too? Well, if he's already stuck like that... Grilled gnoll meat is so delicious.
The alarms went off, but... I probably still have some time. Enough to eat at least a little.
Uh. They found me while I was eating. Damn. I'm not very good at hiding during the day, huh? Quite the paradox, though, as I am way bigger during the night. Oh, well. I've gotten to know them a little, so it was about time I showed myself anyway. The sheep (Anwen, such a pretty name) introduces herself and asks to share my food, and, well. I would usually say no, but who can say no to such pretty wool?
The gnomes they've saved claims to live in the sewers and want us to follow them down. Should I go? Well, I can just finish eating first... But they seem strangely reluctant to leave without me. Are they such bleeding hearts for an unknown owl? That could be useful.
Oh! Oh my! The dog has a piece of that sheep's (Anwen's) wool stuck to him! Beautiful! And so, before I've realized it, I've been taken down into the sewers. It's not all bad, though; while I left my food up above, Anwen was smart enough to bring a gnoll leg and is willing to share. She is so nice!
The goblins has a lot of food as well, and apparently want to party to thank us. And! They've managed to get the shopkeeper who kept me from, uh, 'borrowing' some of his wool previously. He is now stone dead, and I HAVE ALL THE WOOL! Hell yeah. Perhaps I should knit some socks for these goblins. It could be a thank you for all the food they've provided - both now and tonight, when some of them will not live to see the morning. Yes, I think I will do that.
