background
My name is Amarinthe Bronwyne. My parents and I lived in one of the settlements along the river. Mom was human and my dad was an elf. It was hard for them to find a place where we could all live together but they found they couldn't be without each other, and so they made it work. While I was growing up my dad worked along the river trading goods for metals and minerals. Sometimes he'd be gone for long stretches of time. When he'd come home he always brought us beautiful gifts. They would laugh and dance around the room giddy with the joy of being together again. I would laugh and spin with them until he'd lift me up and make me part of their dance, a beloved part of them. I was 30 when my mom got sick and left us. The sparkle in his eyes left with her and staying there was just too painful for him. He decided that he had to leave and begin searching for himself in a life without her. I was sad that he couldn't stay but understood why he couldn't be there alone.
I had begun working with my dad in my teens but now had my own commitments and knew I wouldn't be there to keep him company every day. It's the natural order of things isn't it? Parents raise children to live their lives and become whole in their own ways. He knew I'd be safe and watched over by his old dwarven friend and business associate, Gundren Rockseeker.
Gundren can be a real killjoy! But he has saved me from myself more times than I can count. Often times I will work for him. He pays well. I take after my dad who liked cooler climes I guess, because I HATE to be hot. I frigging loose my mind when I get hot. People have been known to run when I get too hot so they aren't the ones to get caught in my sights when that happens. Gundren knows what I'm like and has been known to toss me into troughs, creeks, lakes, etc. to keep me from spewing vitriol and damnation everywhere when I' hot.
He's also continued my parent's determined effort to keep me from achieving one of my most important, deepest needs from being met! It's not really that unheard of. Its not some deviant sexual thing either so get your mind out of the gutter! It's really just a small thing, something I've been called to for years - as long as I can remember actually. I want a dragon.
I think they are amazing! So beautiful in all their colors. So majestic! People see a dragon and think they are dangerous killing machines. I don't think they're all like that. I could prove it too! I've been trying to get close to some of the dragonborn to see if they can give me a hand finding one. I mean, maybe one of the females has laid an egg and was taken ill or killed. I'd be happy to incubate the egg and raise the dragonswan. I don't even care what color it is. Think about it! How cool would it be to have a dragon as a best friend! We could do everything together!
Every time I get close to finding a dragon to ask, or meet dragonborn, my folks, or now Gundren, get all up in my business and - poof that opportunity just blows up and disappears.
Parents:
My mother, Nicema, was a talented crafter. she could spin and weave beautifully! She followed in her mother's footsteps, and her mother's before her as far back as we can remember. She loved music and dancing. When she danced her eyes sparkled brightly. The only other thing that made her eyes do that was seeing my dad. Her parents were upset when she and dad told them they were marrying but came to understand that what the two of them shared couldn't be wrong or ignored, and finally gave their permission to the match. My mom had 2 sisters and brother. All of them are gone now.
She hid she was sick at first, but my dad and I could tell that there was something wrong and before long she told us what was going on. It wasn't incredibly painful for her and it wasn't prolonged. She had had rheumatic fever as a child which left her heart terribly weakened. She believed that she had missed that aspect of the disease but once she was in late middle age, the damage became obvious and was untreatable.
My father, Graylfaun, was raised deep within the forests with his family of 2 sisters and 1 brother all younger than he was. His parents were not together when he was older and a lot of the responsibility for the family fell to him. He worked hard and had a sense that a thing begun should be done to the very best of of your ability. Getting him to take a day off was unusual. When he met mom, he knew he had to build a life with her. His mother wouldn't accept her, so they've been estranged for the entirety of my folks marriage. Afraid to anger their mother, his siblings turned their backs on him as well. His wife was his all. His best friend, lover, helpmate, and the only person he needed. Losing her was like losing the part of himself that kept him alive. I wondered if I'd lose him as well when she passed, but he found the strength to carry on for me and the others that needed him. He carried on, but we all knew he was just waiting. He finally decided that to face the future, to live rather than just exist, he needed to leave our home and find out who he was now without her.
I haven't heard anything substantial in the 3 and a bit years that he's been gone, other than from Gundren who's heard he's alive and well a couple of times. But I suspect he may have gone back to the forests where he was raised. Even though he chose to be with my mom, he always regretted his mother's choice. I know he sent her money regularly. He spoke of his younger sisters and brother fondly and expressed curiosity about them as they became adults.
He never talked about his father, but I know he's still alive and that, although they weren't close, he wondered why he had left his family. I think there's a chance he may be looking for him.
