Personal history

The story starts twenty-five years ago. A young elven woman, Keyleth, of House Havendhal, was out wandering the woods of Braethendor, southernmost province of the Tuathwold. Keyleth was accompanying her father, Aedreth, in his role as liaison with the human tree-herders from the human realm of Brineven. Led by noble House Morrell, the human loggers were led by Olmar Morrell accompanied by his son Thalver.

The expedition would take much time, as per the agreement with House Braethen, humans were allowed to take only those trees indicated by the elven druids, some recently fallen, some in danger of falling. Still, the lumber from the Tuathwold had a beauty and resilience unmatched in human forests. Over the months, as their fathers squabbled and postured, the two youths spent more and more time together. Thalver, who had learned woodcarving from the best, carved a figurine of Keyleth from a small piece of leftover rowan. By the end of the expedition, the two had developed a deep affection for one another.

The story repeated over next few years, with House Morrell and House Havendhal working with one another during the harvesting months. Keyleth and Thalver started becoming more outspoken, and forging relationships between the human and elven teams who had been working together. Aedreth and Olmar, at first unaware of the attraction between their children, soon realized that the situation was well beyond their ability to stop. There were no furious outbursts, no star-crossed lovers. For over the years, Aedreth and Olmar had gone from distrust, to mutual understanding, to respect, eventually becoming friends.

In a House meeting on the Braethendor community of Kalvoris, Aedreth spoke with the head of House Braethen, Myrdivar. Keyleth was groomed to be a liaison to Brineven as her father was. The next few years saw Keyleth taking her father's role with the tree-harvesting operations. By the time she accompanied House Morrel back to Brineven, she was carrying Thalver's child.

Introduced to the elder king, Alaric Brunwin and his children Crown Princess Rhonwen and her younger brother Arthien, Keyleth and her entourage were given diplomatic quarters near the castle. But Keyleth spent much of her time with Thalver and their baby Abebane in Brinhenge Park. In fact, the priests of the Temple of Silver Stars delivered Abebane. Thalver and Keyleth purchased a home in the elven neighborhood on the southern end of the park.

Abebane grew up in comfort, though Thalver was not heir of House Morrel, he lived well as the third son of his House. Keyleth may not be representing the King of Rose and Thorn, but as the representative from Braethendor, she was often consulted by King Alaric when he wished to understand the mind of the Tuathi.

As Abebane grew up, he had many encounters with human nobles who wasted their time and talents and considered themselves too good to actually put effort into things, and being at court with his mother, he got used to those who sought power through lies and subterfuge. He grew to dislike both.

He found himself spending more and more time at the Temple of Silver Stars, while meditating and focusing in the Temple, he often heard what sounded like whispers. Thoughts and ideas leaped unbidden in his mind. The senior priest of the Temple, Dylar Stargazer, met with him often. Through shared contemplation and training, he learned that the whispers were the whispers of the Seldarine, and he picked out one "voice" as stronger that the others, that of Angharradh, the Triune Goddess. Dylar took the young alfar under his wing and as he developed his skills in diplomacy and mediation with his mother, he learned to channel the power of the Seldarine under Dylar. He devoted himself to peace, although Angharradh teaches that when peace is unattainable, sometimes the spear is necessary.

When King Alaric stepped down, and Queen Rhonwen joined with King Justarin of Hawkmoon to build the Northern Kingdom of Arvanor, Prince Arthien became Brineven's first Grand Duke. In a meeting with Ambassador Keyleth, Arthien expressed his concern with growing rumors of trouble in the Korlon Hills. Rumors of growing banditry, humanoid raids, and disappearances, including elven travelers in the hills. He also learned that an elven scion, Adran Galanadel, has been seen frequently in the village of Hillsboro. He needed someone to travel to the region and send reports back on the source of the troubles, someone who would be able to mediate with any elven presence or interest in the area. He also needed to know if his appointed mayor and sheriff, Maleon Valbard and Reynulf Ithobar, were up to the tasks assigned to them, or were they in over their heads
