Personal history

Clan Myastan hails from the village, now grown to a small town Eisenburg. At first a small village in the lands of Laughing Hollow, also known as the Lonely Coast, Eisenburg gained great prestige when a band of adventurers freed Ulric Eisen from his prison beneath Dragonsgate Castle. The Commodore of Darcos before the fall, Ulric knowledge of tactics and strategy were unmatched since the fall of the militaristic Order of Darcos. When King Justarin and Queen Rhonwen began their quest to reunify the Kingdom of Arvanor, they granted Ulric the lands of the Laughing Vale and directed him to lead their Northern Army of Repatriation.

The Dragonborn clans in the lands of the northern kingdom flocked to Eisen, ready to lend their strength to the noble quest. However, that was not the same for Gymno of Clan Myastan. Not a warrior by trade, Gymno favored the arcane arts and tapped easily into the Weave, after the third house fire, his parents Arithea and Sheneresk began looking for a tutor for the young dragonborn's natural abilities.

They found the likely candidate in Azmeran Toxathus, a copper dragonborn living not far away in the city of Marston. The pair couldn't have been more dissimilar. Gymno took pride in his gold scales and had some difficulty accepting the elder copper dragonborn as his mentor, while Toxathus expected careful study and assigned lots of reading, much of it unrelated to the arcane. Gymno excelled at arcane lessons and spellcrafting, but was unable, or at least unwilling to put the time and effort to learn magical theory and research.

Toxathus, however exasperated he was with the young, impetuous Gymno, kept up the pressure, resulting in some spectacular arguments, and neighbors calling for the guard more than once. Knowing that a life of study and careful magic wouldn't be in Gymno's future, Toxathus pushed his latent sorcerous abilities to the surface. The fact that this is done through tapping into strong emotion, like rage, just made things a bit more interesting. While Gymno became more and more outraged by his mentor, but unable to leave because of his promise to his parents and clan, Toxathus seemed to enjoy Gymno's discomfort. The only place they seemed to enjoy together was Toxathus' alchemy lab, where Gymno soaked up the lessons of reagents, and effects, suspensions, infusions, and solutions.

In truth, Toxathus was molding the young dragonborn and developing his sorcerous nature, often at the expense of Gymno's pride and sense of self. It almost came to a head when, after a particularly embarrassing incident, Gymno called his magic with the intent of injuring Toxathus. Toxathus calmed Gymno and praised him for summoning his magic without thought. He explained to Gymno the power within him and how to tap into this and other emotions to summon his power.

Gymno was overwhelmed. Here was the copper dragonborn who had tortured him (in his mind) for years, admitting that it was the only way besides intense study, for Gymno to tap into his abilities. His mentor had seen his potential and drawn it out from him in maybe the only way possible. Struggling with his long dislike of his mentor, and the understanding that it was all part of the training confused the young gold.

Toxathus explained that there was no more he could teach the young dragonborn. Gymno's powers needed challenge and new stimuli to grow and evolve, and that wouldn't happen in Marston. There was talk of increased bandit and humanoid activity in the hills northeast of Marston. The challenge of uncovering what was happening and putting his powers to the test would be a new catalyst that would spur him to new heights of mastery.

Toaxthus packed some beginning supplies for the young gold and sent him off. With a glint in his eye.

Side note: Coppers are known for being incorrigible pranksters, joke tellers, and riddlers. Was it this tendency in Toxathus that caused the conflict between the two or was it planned the whole time?
