Darkstalk

Darkstalk is a popular fungi in the underdark whose spores have a hard grain-like feel to them making it possible to make bread from it.

Anatomy

Darkstalk is a black fungus that camouflages in the darkness. The cap of the fungi is full of numerous black spores.

Genetics and Reproduction

Darkstalk grows from its spores that are released on the surrounding rocks. The spores grow into new darkstalk in 4-8 weeks.

Biological Cycle

Darkstalk becomes white when it's ready to release spores returning to its black color after 3 days.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Underground Denizens: People that live underground take the spores of this fungus and use it to grow more, making bread from its spores. Silican drow often make farms of these fungi that their slaves tend to have decent food for their people.
