Soraya Mirkibil's Abandoned Cottage
Nestled just within the embrace of a forest, Soraya Mirkibil's cottage stands as a silent testament to a misunderstood soul. Time has woven its tapestry over this place, with nature slowly reclaiming what was once hers. The forest here is dense but not oppressive.
Design
The cottage itself is small yet exudes a humble charm. Constructed from weathered stones gathered from the forest itself, the walls are sturdy but softened by layers of moss that blanket them in hues of deep green. The mossy roof slopes gently, almost seamlessly blending the dwelling into its surroundings. Vines adorned with delicate flowers creep upwards, adding touches of pastel colours against the earthy tones.
A narrow stone path, partially overgrown but still discernible, leads to a wooden door. Windows with wrought iron lattice peek out, their glass panes long gone, now filled with a tangle of ivy. The air around the cottage carries a faint aroma of wild herbs and distant rain.
Stepping inside the cottage, The single room is open and uncluttered, with a hearth opposite the door where remnants of charcoal hint at fires long extinguished. Above the hearth, a mantle holds simple keepsakes—a locket, a feather quill, and a small portrait sketch of a young Soraya smiling softly. A modest bed lies in one corner, neatly made as if waiting for its owner to return. Nearby, a bookshelf overflows with now decayed volumes on history, healing herbs, and the arcane arts. The wooden floorboards creak gently underfoot, and the scent of dried herbs lingers in the air. Wind chimes made from seashells and crystals hang near the windows, tinkling ever so slightly with the forest's whispers.
Adjacent to the cottage lies a small graveyard. Simple headstones, some tilted with age, mark the resting places of those who passed unnoticed by history. Soraya tended to these souls, offering them respect and ensuring they were not forgotten. Wildflowers sprout among the graves—lavender, forget-me-nots, and moonflowers—that bloom under the moon's gentle light. The gate to the graveyard is wrought iron, entwined with vines but still standing strong.
Special Properties
Beside the cottage sits an old stone well, its circular wall adorned with carvings. The well is partially covered with a wooden lid, disguising its true purpose beneath, a discreet (now crumbled) winding staircase descended into Soraya's hidden laboratory.
