Island of Tern

Tern is a small island east of Myrthul, and is famous for its massive market, acting as the main trade hub between Myrthul, Saloria, and Ivaguicha.

Geography

Tern is a volcanic island, located along a tropical current a hundred miles south-east of the Dermies Mountains coast. The island has three regions divided around the central volcano, Mount Rekan; the north face, which has long flat farmlands and the harbor for the city of Tern, the east face, home to a fiery river that spews from the still active volcano and is home to a small smithing town, and the southern face which has a large crater leaving a crescent-shaped beachhead.

North Face

The north side of Rekan is a long beachhead turned to farmland and in the west has a deeper inlet used as the port for the main city. The beach is made from fine sand with some rocky outcropping to the east and has a reef off the shore. Plantations were grown on the edge of the beach and behind them rich soil is farmed for exotic tropical fruits. The city sits on a rocky cliff expanding up against a ridge.

East Face

Rekan is an active volcano, still spewing a fiery river down its east face. The land on this side of the mountain is lacking in vegetation and sandy beaches, but the molten rock that flows along it is rich in iron, which is utilized by a smithing town that has settled near it. The sea on this side of the island is home to several exotic types of fish that are attracted to the heat of the lava that continues to pour.

South Face

The volcano that makes up the majority of Tern is believed to be a child of a larger volcano. The large crater on the south side of the island is believed to have been from the larger volcano violently erupting. The large crescent cove it forms is now home to many coral and other tropical fish, and has large inactive volcanic vents that hold large gems. The vents are extremely dangerous, however, due to the high activity of the neighboring Rekan, which will sometimes release toxic gases through the tunnels.
