Mossy Sloth

This article is incomplete, and it shall be expanded upon some time in the future. :) If you would like to see it expanded upon, leave a comment letting me know!

Mossy sloths are a species of capepan sloth in the Homonas genus. They are best known for their colouration that resemble patches of moss in their fur. These dark green, almost black, patches are actually the result of a diet comprising mostly of black licorice leaves.

Eating to Extinction

Eggy Placeholder by Dr Emily Vair-Turnbull

Mossy sloths have a population of around 6 million, while black licorice trees are dwindling. Due to the capsain's aversion to deforestation of any kind, the main reason for the decrease in black licorice trees are mossy sloths consuming them.

On some isolated islands, far away from mossy sloths, black licorice tree farms have been set up to produce more trees, which can be redistributed to the sloth's native ranges. This has slowed down their population decrease, but the trees are still heading down the road to extinction.
