Dragon's Repose

Found in dried leaves of the Draconite plant, Dragon's Repose is the common name for a mild psychoactive substance that was used commonly around late Heroic Age Everia. Dried, burned, and inhaled, Dragon's Repose is always recognizable from its woody pine smell, like the deep forests where it grows.

"The smoke that slowly filled the room smelled strongly of pine, not burnt or ashy like she expected. Agatha discovered herself quite enjoying the scent, despite her strong apprehension about the man holding the pipe."
— The Everian Ascension

Dragon's Repose has been known by many names throughout the millennia. The plant was historically used for medicinal purposes, as it is found to calm and raise the spirits of the user when smoked or cooked into foods. In fact, long term usage of what came to be known as 'Greencalm' often led to longer life spans and lessened degeneration with age. Its use as a drug did not develop until much later as tribes began to unite into cities, and the net of industry spread across the quickly populating country. It began to lose its historical name and gained popularity as 'Dragon's Repose.'

As grow operations popularized, drug runs from Everia to the surrounding countries developed swiftly under the watchful eye of the Crescent Council. Other drugs like Dulsa Dust have quickly grown in popularity, but Dragon's Repose remains in power in the black markets. While the Silver Brotherhood have forced a crackdown in recent years, the drug continues to influence the country, and keeps the black market in business.

The Draconite plant was first discovered during the early Deific Age. At the height of its Everian exports, Draconite was mostly grown on communes deep within the Living Lands.

While the communities that make their home within the Living Lands are commonly stigmatized for the crops they grow, none in Everia can deny the income the industry generates, or the recreation it provides. Occuri families have kept their almanacs secret for generations, protecting their detailed knowledge of Draconite to hold a monopoly on its production.
