Devil Gears
Devil gears are the totemic gravity lodestones associated with the Forged Moon associated with my kind, the soulforged. They are an infernal reminder of the sway that Malfador, the God of Lies, holds over my people. They draw power from sin and pain, but they are one of the few materials that can power a totemic gravity drive to our new home in the sky.
Malfador almost claimed all the soulforged and mechani-kin as his own. As an orc, I know something about escaping the influence of an evil god. Yes, the tools that devil left behind are tainted, but they are still powerful. Instructor and his people just have to figure out how to use them without being corrupted.
Devil gears are infernal machine components created by Malfador, the god of lies, when he built hell forges and infernal engines on the former Hidden Moon. They allowed for large-scale magitech machinery and weapons to function on the moon without requiring hex crystal power.
These gears are scattered across the now Forged Moon after the defeat of the Infernal Forces and the rise of the new god Praxis.
They are mainly used as lodestones to power gravity drives that allow travel from Erathia to the new moon when it's full in the sky. They can also replace hex crystals in devices that require them for power.
The Power of Suffering
Unlike hex crystals, which recharge every dawn on Erathia, devil gears recharge through sin and suffering. They draw on the agony of pain, fear, and regret for power. They are similar to soul coins, but they don't contain souls that are burned for power.
The use of devil gears is a source of deep conflict for the soulforged. Some see them as a reminder of the devil's embrace of their kind. Others see them merely as tools with a tricky application. They are authorized for limited use by the Zone Authority and recharging them is limited to ethical and consensual means.
Interesting. It must be difficult to recharge them when it has to be consensual by law.

One of my players brought that up and that was definitely an unforeseen consequence! Should be fun when it comes up in game!
