Bloodfire Mango

The Bloodfire Mango is the fragrant fruit of the Bloodfire Mango Tree, a carnivorous, invasive species that has infested parts of the Anomalous Forest in the Southwest Canton of the Kirinal Concordance Zone. These mangoes are the sweetest and most delicious fruits recorded in the worlds we know.

There's a patch of the Anomalous Forest in the Golden Slice where you can go mango hunting, for the right price! It's one of the few trees that you have to stalk, AND the tree fights back! The warriors of Winter's Horde use mango season as a training exercise. Best of all, the winning squad gets to eat the prize!

Sgt. Kill Flayer

The bloodfire mango is infamous for its awesome and alluring aroma, said to resemble honeyed mango caramelized over red coals. As the fruit ripens, the smells intensifies, awakening hunger and curiosity even in those who normally don't eat fruit. Even carnivores and Mechani-kin have been drawn to the smell of ripe bloodfire mango. The fruit attracts animals that fall to the barrage of deadly foliage that the tree can deploy. The corpses of the curious become fertilizer for the tree.

In the wild, the smell of ripening mangoes drifts for miles. During mango season, parents in the Zone are warned to keep an eye on children and pets who might wander off chasing the scent of candied mango.

The Most Dangerous Harvest

Harvesting bloodfire mangoes requires an iron will, full armor, and wards against pheromone control. Specially trained harvesters enter the bloodfire groves as if they were going into battle.

They leave with bushels of glowing red fruit more valuable than their weight in gold.

The Fruit Itself

The mango starts with a green skin that turns a glowing orange-red as it ripens. The flesh is deep orange, shot through with glowing golden fibers. The texture is buttery and it tastes smoky, slightly spicy, and has an otherworldly sweetness with a coppery aftertaste.

Some say you can have visions from the memories of the dead that the tree has composted.

I have a bloodfire mango tree in my garden. Of course no one steals from Lola Carly, but sometimes I can tell my tree is too happy! It's best not to ask questions. Whenever it give fruit, I make the best bloodfire bibingka! Of course you can have some! Just pass me by when you smell them!

You make this mango so tempting! It sounds absolutely delicious. Gimme the danger mango, i'll gobble it up. Those lucky winner soldiers, I'm jealous.   (also, my apologies if this is out of hand, but I found a typo in one of your headers. "The Fruit[ Itself" <- there's a bracket after the word fruit)

Thank you! And I found and fixed that typo!

It's delicious! Just don't look too closely at the tree. Just close your eyes. It's ok. I promise!

Mango is delicious and you make it sound even better, despite the dangers! Also, that last phrase with the memories of the dead? This will stay with me for a while. Good article once more!

I love that Sarge seems excited about the fact that the tree fights back! Also: "visions from the memories of the dead that the tree has composted" is haunting but an awesome story point!

That visions of the dead thing is something that just came up, but it's stuck in my head too!
