Northern Wilds

Cold and barren, rocks protuding up from the ground everywhere, the Nothern Wilds had long been considered inhospitable except for the few magical beasts that lived there. With only sparse hardy grass, tough bushes and the rare tree, not much vegetation is found here, and as such not many animals either.
However, as the Tyver family proved, you can settle and tame this barren wasteland. They did so by herding animals from patch of grass to patch of grass, never truly settling down. Over the years small towns began to appear in areas with decent vegetation, and while the many herds of animals still forever roam the Nothern Wilds in search of food, today there are many small towns nad even some cities. Once a month the herds will arrive at a town where suitable animals will be slaughtered for food. This keeps the towns alive, and when they have excess meat, lets them trade for other resources.
As was also discovered by the Tyver family, the most northern parts are extremely rich in minerals like iron, coal and silver. They have only been able to esthablish a few mining towns however.

Despite no longer being seen as inhospitalble, most of the Northern wilds is still unsettled, especially the lands towards the west, where hills and mountains are abundant along with magical beasts, it is known as the Untameable Highlands.
