Heart of Syracuse

The Heart of Syracuse is a white crytal, the size of a fist, which has many magical properties. It hovers above the Tower of Mages where many a mage has tried to unlock its secrects, but none have been successful. The crystal drips with magic, but seemingly makes it itself, a property that if mastered could make a mage all powerful. 
The crystal protects Syracuse by keeping away monsters and stopping all minor illnesses, while it helps crops grow big and strong. It is protected by the Maidens of Syracuse, powerful warriors whom the crystal have imbued with innate magic. It only gives this power to women, and highest amount of maidens there have ever been at one point was 99.

Due to its mysterious nature and unknown origin, many believe it is the crystal from The old man and the moon. Which led many of the people in Syracuse to worship Alinia, The Moon Goddess. Once a year, on the longest night, all are allowed to walk up the Tower of Mages to briefly touch the Heart of Syracuse, in a ceremony of gratitude. Here people say thanks and pay their respect for the protection the crystal provides.
