Battle of Denor Diamond Mine
While Syracuse and the Kingdom of Clir have had many skirmishes through the years, the Battle of Denor Diamond Mine was by far the largest, and almost resulted in all out war. 13 of Syracuse 20 companies of soldiers was deployed for the battle, along with the Maidens of Syracuse. While the Kingdom of Clir had sent half of their second army.
The battle took place on a cold autumn day, a thin fog had rolled in, which military experts later concluded to have been factor in the outcome of the battle. The two forces met in the field just outside the mine, the Kingdom of Clir had 2000 soldiers more, but Syracuse was still favored to win due to their better training. However, 10 minutes after the battle had started, another 2000 soldiers from the Kingdom of Clir came out of the mine, trapping the right flank of the Syracuse military, along with the Maidens of Syracuse. Things quickly became chaos in the normally orderly lines of Syracuse and the tide had turned in an instant.
Only 3 companies returned to Syracuse along with only a third of the Maidens of Syracuse, whom it was said were the only reason any escaped at all.
