Frostmere

Frostmere is the capital city of the Kingdom of Loradel and the site of Thallor Castle, the sovereign seat of House Loradel. Located deep within the tundral expanse of northern Alagor, Frostmere is a fortified geothermal city constructed to endure some of the harshest climates on the continent. It is both the administrative and cultural heart of Loradel, known for its stoicism, survival-driven urban design, and the historical resilience of its people.   The city was founded around the original stronghold built by Thallor Loradel, one of the Seven Monarchs appointed by the Four Dragons during the realm’s unification. What began as a survival compound evolved into a fortified metropolis, interwoven with geothermal canals and defensive infrastructure. Despite multiple wars and natural disasters, Frostmere has never been abandoned, and has remained the unbroken spine of Loradellian identity for over six millennia.   During the rise of the Emerald Queen, Frostmere was the last of the Seven Capitals to fall. Its eventual breach marked the final conquest of the Emerald Throne and the death of Verek Loradel, consort to Queen Elena. Even in subjugation, Frostmere remained a defiant symbol of endurance.   Today, it is a modern arctic capital, integrated with imperial infrastructure yet retaining full local governance. It is home to major cultural institutions, frostglass manufacturing sectors, and one of the most advanced geothermal networks in the Realm of Alagor. It continues to serve as a place of pilgrimage, political significance, and tactical command.

Demographics

Primary Group: Ethnic Loradellians (~90%)   Minorities: Valtorian traders, Dravonellian tourist, imperial technical staff   Profession Distribution:   ~40% technical (infrastructure, geothermal systems, frostglass refineries)   ~30% civic and survival services (logistics, healthcare, archives)   ~20% military   ~10% diplomatic, educational, or regional service

Defences

Triple-layer curtain walls (thermo-reactive alloy plating)   Permafrost Maskers – Confuse aerial scans, magical and thermal detection   Thermal Curtain Shields – Projected micro-barriers during crisis states   Endurance Corps battlements embedded across cliffline platforms   Coldshock mines embedded beneath exterior lakebeds and passes

Industry & Trade

Exports:   Frostglass panels   Ice-hardened reactor components   Polar insulation systems   Thermoregulated survival gear   Imports:   Food staples (grain, fruit)   High-sensitivity electronics   Rare medical agents   Primary Industries:   Survival-engineering tech   Frostglass forging   Climate research   Water purification systems

Infrastructure

Geothermal Core Grids – Power and heat routed through deep thermal vents   Subterranean Reservoir Systems – Closed-loop water systems, fed by glacial melt   Mag-rail Terminals – Connect Frostmere to major outer settlements   Thermal Bridgeways – Heated skywalks linking city districts during freeze events   Frostglass Flood Tunnels – Double as defense channels and melt overflow regulation

Districts

Thallor Citadel – Administrative and military core, centered around Thallor Castle   Stonechannel Ward – Frostglass refining and heavy industry   Frostwell Quarter – Diplomatic housing, foreign archives, and visitors' lodgings   The Hollowbanks – Primary residential sector, partially subterranean   Skyveil Ridge – Observation towers and elite defense training grounds   Shrine Ring – Ancestral shrines and cultural memorial halls

Assets

Thallor Castle (seat of Queen Elena Loradel)   Central geothermal capacitor and heating control systems   Stonecode Archives (legal, historical, engineering records)   Arctic logistics HQ for the Endurance Corps   Enclosed agricultural greenhouses (short-cycle, nutrient-dense yield)

Guilds and Factions

Thermal Engineers’ Assembly – Controls and maintains hydrothermal systems   Order of the Stonecode – Preserves ancient records, laws, and inscriptions   Endurance Guild – Trains arctic logistics personnel, survivalists, and guards   The Frostmoot – A traditional civic advisory body, non-legislative but influential

History

Frostmere rose around Thallor Castle, the first stronghold built by Thallor Loradel after the Draconic Mandate. Originally a strategic redoubt, the city evolved through necessity into Loradel’s capital—surviving numerous glacial ages, isolation events, and sieges.   During the Emerald Queen's conquest of the Seven Kingdoms, Frostmere was the final capital to fall. It withstood prolonged siege before its walls were breached by the White Knights. The fall of Frostmere marked the end of autonomous resistance. Its memory is now commemorated in the Winter Rite of Silence.

Points of interest

Thallor Castle – Sovereign fortress and administrative seat   The Cold Hall – Forum for civic debates and ceremonial oaths   Shrine of the Seven Lamps – Memorial site to the first monarchs   Ironlight Garden – Heated botanical garden growing resistant flora   Stonecode Vault – Active research and archive facility

Tourism

Tourism is restricted and regulated due to the capital’s climate and defensive nature. Authorized visitors include:   Engineers and researchers studying frostglass applications   Cultural pilgrims attending the Winter Rite of Silence   Imperial dignitaries and assigned diplomats   Archaeohistorians accessing the Stonecode   Visitors are accommodated in Frostwell Quarter, which contains thermally isolated diplomatic housing and tour-control facilities.

Architecture

Constructed primarily from dark basalt, frostglass, and mineral-steel core   Polyglass dome skylights used for snowlight diffusion   Decoration is minimal: buildings often bear etched memorial slabs, clan sigils, or resilience markers   Structures are sloped, angular, and heavily insulated; city is partly subterranean for thermal retention

Geography

Located on a raised tundra plateau facing the Great Lake of Vishar   Surrounded by cliff walls, frozen ravines, and hydrothermal fields   Snow coverage year-round with seasonal meltwater runoff channels

Climate

Subarctic: average winter low ~–25 °C, summer high ~8 °C   Low sunlight during winters; constant twilight for three months   Sudden ice storms and prolonged whiteouts common

Natural Resources

Frostglass-grade silica   Glacial mineral deposits   Geothermal venting fields   Ice-fed freshwater reserves
