Tieflings of Wakodia

Children of infernal pacts and blood-stained legacies, tieflings walk the line between curse and choice.

Overview

Tieflings are mortals born with infernal lineage—marked by the touch of devils in their ancestry.
This influence can stem from ancient bloodlines tied to infernal pacts, direct contact with devils across generations, or simply having a tiefling parent.
Though fully mortal, their appearance and innate abilities reflect the power that once tainted their line.

Tieflings are uncommon but widespread across Wakodia. They are often met with suspicion or fascination, and while many live integrated lives among other peoples, one city stands as their proudest symbol of survival and identity: Akumaura, on the southeastern coast of Yoake.

Physical Characteristics

Appearance: Tieflings often possess traits that set them apart—horns, pointed teeth, tails, glowing eyes, or skin in unnatural hues such as crimson, ashen, violet, or obsidian.
These traits vary widely depending on the tiefling’s bloodline, often reflecting the Infernal House that marks their ancestry.

Lifespan: Tieflings live somewhat longer than most humans, typically reaching 100–120 years.

Height and Build: Most tieflings stand between 5'0" and 6'2", with a wide variety of body types. Their posture and build are shaped more by environment and culture than lineage.

Infernal Bloodlines

Tiefling bloodlines in Wakodia are often touched by one of the Seven Infernal Houses of Nexarith, each tied to a powerful Monarch.
The nature of their inherited abilities, appearance, and instincts are shaped by this connection—even if the tiefling has never encountered Nexarith itself.

In some cases, tieflings are born of direct pacts or curses. In others, the influence lingers in a bloodline for generations before reawakening.

Culture and Society

Tieflings are found throughout Wakodia, but their greatest stronghold is the city of Akumaura, located on the southeastern coast of Yoake.
After being exiled by the Heilig Empire—viewed as cursed and unfit to live among its citizens—many tieflings were cast out to the empire’s coastal zone in Yoake.
Rather than remain under imperial control, they escaped north along the southern shore and founded Akumaura, a free and independent city built by their own hands.

Today, Akumaura thrives as a cultural heart for tieflings—blending infernal aesthetics with mortal ingenuity. It is a place of pride, defiance, and community, where tieflings from all across Wakodia can find belonging.

Elsewhere, tieflings often face mixed reactions. Some are feared or distrusted; others are welcomed for their strength, wisdom, or magical gifts.

Religion and Philosophy

Tieflings worship a wide array of deities. Many lean toward gods of fate, freedom, or redemption, while others honor more obscure or even forbidden powers.
Though cults of the Infernal Monarchs exist, most tieflings do not revere the entities that shaped their blood.

Some view their infernal nature as a burden. Others embrace it as a symbol of resilience and untamed power.

Magic and Lineage

Most tieflings manifest innate magical abilities that reflect the House their ancestry is tied to.
These powers often develop in childhood or adolescence, especially during moments of stress, fear, or transformation.
Their magic is instinctive—tied to emotion, willpower, and legacy rather than study.

Relationships with Other Races

Humans: Reactions vary widely. In regions like the Heilig Empire, tieflings are often shunned or scapegoated. Elsewhere, they may be seen as exotic, dangerous, or misunderstood.
Elves: Historically wary of infernal blood, though elven scholars and outcasts may show curiosity or respect.
Dwarves: Distrustful but fair, respecting tieflings who prove their strength and craftsmanship.
Other Races: Tieflings are viewed through the lens of local culture—regarded as outcasts, mystics, or symbols of change depending on the region.

Legacy

Tieflings are living echoes of past sins and dark bargains—but they are also symbols of willpower, independence, and transformation.
Whether they walk a path of shadow or strive for the light, tieflings carry within them the mark of something greater—and more dangerous—than themselves.

They are survivors, inheritors, and often, reluctant heirs to infernal power.
