Potion of Resist Fire
Alchemiche de Irrelith is a company that primarily makes combat potions. Their Potion of Resist Fire will increase a person's resistance to fire damage for a short time by raising the minimum absolute temperature it takes to burn them.
Human skin starts to suffer damage when exposed to water temperatures above 60°C for more than a few seconds, or an absolute temperature of 333°K. Numerous tests over the centuries have shown that a fire resistance potion will increase this temperature to 227°C (500°K), making a person immune to things like boiling water. This is how the company explains the way their potions work. the actual way they work is a little more complicated...
And odd effect with this potion is that when poured into a bucket of pure water, that water's freezing point will increase from 0 to 137°C (410°K). This solid block of ice might look cool to the touch but it is more than hot enough to cause severe scalding burns. This block of ice will stay like this for up to eight hours, slowly sublimating into water vapor without turning back into a liquid.

Salika's Knowledge #361
A Learned man might look at a fire resistance potion and scoff at how little protection it offers. "500K? Fire burns at over 1000K!" They might say, then proceed to spend ten times as much money on a fire negation potion instead. "Afterall I am about to go fight a vicious fire breathing drake!" They might add.
To this I say that learned men on Vreathe do not actually know that much at all!
Vreathe is a world governed by physical laws as much as any magical one, and Thermodynamics do most definitely still apply. To make the point, Consider that a for a piece of steel to get so hot that it glows, it needs to reach a temperature of 480C, certainly hot enough to instantly burn a man, even with a fire resistance potion. Now consider a torch. A torch's flame burns at over a thousand degrees, but it doesn't instantly burn you, it takes several seconds, an eternity compared to glowing hot metal. How is this so?
Thermal Conductivity is your answer! Steel is fifteen hundred times more conductive to heat than air is. The true secret behind a fire resistance potion is that it greatly dulls the body's ability to absorb heat from its environment. Instead of getting burned by a torch fire in around three seconds, it now takes thirty or more. Any knight worth their sword isn't going to be caught in a drake's fire breath for that long! So the next time you are looking for a little more protection against a fire breathing drake, or say, a Magma Wolf, save your money. You don't really need that negation potion unless you were to attempt fighting a Phoenix or take a swim in lava!
