Alchemiche de Irrelith

ARTICLE CONTENTS
Alchemiche de Irrelith is a potion company, originally based out of the Empire of Irrelith, that mass produces standardized combat potions. Many potions use similar ingredients and each potion is tailored to a specific purpose, whethere it is to increase resistance to a certain type of magic, amplify magic casting ability, negate a type of magic entirely, Remove poisons or heal injuries.

Each potion comes in the same size vial, about 50 mL in capacity. The top of the vial is covered in beeswax and has a large metal tab to allowing a person to quickly peel off the lid and drink the potion, reducing the amount of time they are out of the fight.

The labeling on all potions are also standardized, with each color shape meaning a specific thing and each symbol indicating what the potion protects against. Each potion is labeled with the activation time and duration, which is generally the same across all potions. The label also says exactly what each potion does and has warnings if it is relevant.

A Health Charge Potion, easily the most popular potion created by Alchemiche de Irrelith. Several million are manufactured each year for adventurers, soldiers, and anyone else needing immediate healing.

History

Alchemiche de Irrelith was Established in the year 2400 I.A., by the Imperial Army of the Aureoni Dynasty. The original purpose behind the company was to create a standardized and easily mass producible set of potions that the army could exclusively take advantage of on long military campaigns. They also wanted to reduce their reliance on healers as they were often targeted in battle at the time, and hiring Hostpitaller Knights from the Order of the Phoenix was expensive. The original potions created included a health potion and an antidote.

In the year 2478 I.A, the Aureoni Dynasty ended in an uprising of the people and most of the government was dismantled. The Elven alchemists behind the creation of Alchemiche de Irrelith were forced to flee the country, eventually ending up in kingdoms like Galleska and Cassel.

The company was restarted, this time selling their potions to anyone who needed them. Their health potions especially became popular among adventurers and mercenaries. They also expanded their offering to include various resistance and amplification potions. In current times they have contracts with multiple militaries as well as explorer guilds and knightly orders, producing millions of potions each year.

Potion Classification System

Originally the potions labels covered the entire bottle, having the ingredients listed as well as several paragraphs explaining the effects and side effects. When the company expanded their potion line, they redesigned the label to be as simple and no nonsense as possible. The new labeling doesn't even have the company logo on it, but most people recognize the company's product with the distinct shape of the vial with the large metal tab. The company developed a system to classify classes of potions based on a colored shape and symbol for very quick identification. The label also has the name of the potion, its effects, and not much else.

Class Shapes and Colors

Symbol Meaning
Red circle - Shape/Color for Resistance. Resistance potions increase resistance against a specific element of magic, whether is is Elemental Magic or Esoteric Magic. Numerous tests over the centuries has shown that resistance potions roughly cut the damage or effect from specific sources by 50%. Drinking two resistance potions in quick succession will increase this resistance to 90%. This resistance also extends to non-elemental sources.
Green Diamond - Shape/Color for Amplify. Amplificiation potions increase a casters ability to use magic of a specific element, by roughly 100%. Drinking two potions can double the effect to 200%. It should be noted that in some cases, this will also increase the user's susceptibility to that element as well. An example is Life magic. Drinking an amplify Life potion, then drinking a healing potion will double its effects.
Blue Square - Shape/Color for Negate. Negation potions will make a person completely immune to magic of a specific element, but it will also prevent them from casting magic of a specific element. Drinking multple negation potions will exponentially extend the effect, but can also be quite dangerous. An example is a negate lightning potion. Drinking two of these quickly will cause a feeling similar to drunkeness, five will mess with the body's nerves and ten can cause the brain to shut down due to the lack of electrical connection between neurons.
Orange Hexagon - Shape/Color for Healing, whether it is for a health potion or antidote for poisons. This class of potions has warnings on the label against taking too many. Taking more than one antidote for example can make a person quite sick. Drinking far too many healing potions in quick succession will have the opposite effect and cause strange cancerous growths in the body.
Violet Star - Shape/Color for Mana and Aether, two different resources for casting magic. The body has a very specific mana capacity as determined by the size of their Mana Lung, so drinking multiple mana charge potions will do nothing. Drinking multiple Aether Charge Potions can change the body in chaotic ways.

    Author's Notes

  • This article was going to be much more in depth listing each and every potion the company made, but those would be better as their own articles later on.
  • The colored symbols, I got the idea from fire extinguishers and different classes of fires...
  • Finding proper alchemical symbols for everything was somewhat of a pain.
  • There is no general symbol for metal, there's actually 19 different ones, with overlap with symbols used for astrology. I used the symbol for Iron/Mars, since it made the most sense.
  • There isn't a good symbol for ice, so I looked for an obscure letter for 'G' for Glacies instead.
  • Same for Lighting, but I just went straight for the letter 'F' for Fulgor.
  • For Mana and Aether, I used symbols that made the most sense. Mana uses the symbol for Silver, and Aether uses the symbol for Vinegar. Trust me, it makes more sense in the context of my world than you would think.
  • For Radiation, there wasn't a good one again (and I wasn't going to use our modern symbol), so I made a symbol with arrows pointing in every direction.
  • For Magnet, I used the symbol for Nickel.
  • For Arcane, I used the symbol for Tin, which corresponds with the symbol for Jupiter. Jupiter in this universe is called the the Planet Tarsuros, the World of the Dark God Tazil.

This is a really fantastic article. I really love how you've created a classification system, a system of variouos colour and other related sysmbols to determine what poition comes under what category. It's really great. Truly fantastic work.

I love the idea that you can poison people with negate lighting potions, you can add it to their wine, and they may think they are just getting drunk, but then their brain turns off lol.

Even if, as you say, there is still a lot missing, you can already see very clearly where the journey is going. I like the elaborate system and your thoughts on the individual symbols. I am excited to see what else you come up with for this. But it is already very inspiring.

I think this might have been one of the most in-depth, detailed articles I've read so far. Fantastic work!

The concept of a huge company making all those potions is really creative and your classification system is so smart. And I'm curious know what Aether has to do with Vinegar :D

    Enjoy Worldember 2025!
