Old Families
The Moniker Old Family is a, relatively, new name. Only been around for ~100 Years.
It is hazy on what it truly means but a general understanding is that all the families that count trace their lineage back to Old Earth and that they are, without question, incredibly difficult to dislodge from power. They are so entrenched, so powerful and rich, that nothing short of a Civil War sized event would not stop them. And even that might not be enough.
