Civilization and Culture
History
Mankind is a relatively new race; they've long been greatly divided from one another into several feudal kingdoms. Most of Mankind was once isolated upon Tregaron, which was sectioned into multiple feudal kingdoms and fiefdoms that governed separately from one another. These kingdoms fought often; some rising and falling over night.
Humans sometimes refer to this time as the Cruel Age.
Cruel Age
Often greatly divided from the current era, the Feudal Era is one built upon strife and conflict. Tregaron's fields were often soaked in blood and left desolate from the countless battlefields marking the landscape. These times are often what many humans call the Dark Ages. The isle was fragmented, split into countless kingdoms lead by multiple lords vying for control. Conflict cycled throughout Tregaron, and between that, brigands and mercenaries formed roving warbands to profit off the endless wars that ravaged the landscapeAine & The Enlightenment
Aine, a homeless man that lived during the Cruel Age, sought to unify mankind under one banner. This lead towards his legendary Pilgrimage. Aine gathered a mass army of the common folk and began an exodus through the seas. While he famously was uncertain whether or not their sailing would end with them finding a home safe Tregaron, many had followed him out of an earnest desire to escape the cruelty brought from the split kingdoms. This long pilgrimmage eventually ended with his martyrdom; he was captured and forced to sit upon a spiked throne with a crown of thorns at his head, until he eventually bled from his wounds. Yet, faith in Aine's cause persevered to the point that miracles began happening for those that continued his legacy. These miracles lead to the eventual creation of the Holy Church, which continued his legacy by continuing the pilgrimage across the kingdoms until three sponsored Kingdoms rose to prominance; Vilstrung, Ignan, and Mordencrast.
