Devil Binding is a magical practice that is outlawed across most human states. It relies on the exploitation of
Fae to create powerful miracles and spells for the sole benefit of the caster. It is a very dangerous practice, and is practiced alost exclusively in
Ignan
The Process
The process of devil binding requires the careful and precise manipulation of
Fae and Yokai -- referred to as
Devils in Vank culture. Casting spells must be done without succumbing entirely under their sway; such a process does not come without exceptional risks, but the power granted to a skilled Devil Binder is undeniable.
Contract Drafting
A contract made of parchment is carefully drafted. This is typically done by somebody other than a devil binder, as it requires very precise and careful wording to ensure that the bound entity is incapable of exploiting loopholes left by the parchment. Afterwards, the selected entity's name is etched into the Devil Binder's skin with a quilled pen. The blood is then used to sign their name onto the parchment.
Contracts binding both parties
must be made in agreement from both sides.
Once signed in blood, devil and mortal are both bound through an infernal contract.
Careful Worship
Upon being bound, the Binder slowly earns magical abilities similar to the Devil that they were bound to. Their contract also serves as a special conduit; faith and prayer given in the name of their bound Devil becomes amplified and focused, allowing for them to utilise miracles focused in the name of their bound Devil.
While the Miracles are fuelled by the caster's contract, they are
still inherently grounded in firm faith. Should a Caster misuse their contract and perform too many miracles in their devil's name, they may run the risk of eventually growing deluded enough to find their faith in their Devil genuine.
Devil Binders must always remain resolute and undergo constant training, lest they become a puppet whose strings lead back to the Devil they bound themselves to.
