Ilvanya Elves

In the Southern regions of Vesax lies the country of Orstad, a once mighty empire that spanned most of Vesax. Ruling over this land are the Ilvanya Elves, a group of elves that were touched by the Faewild during the Tear, resulting in them being effected in strange ways that granted them power, but also left them tinged with madness.

Naming Traditions

Elves are considered children until they declare themselves adults, some time after the hundredth birthday, and before this period they are called by child names.
On declaring adulthood, an elf selects an adult name, although those who knew him or her as a youngster might continue to use the child name. Each elf's adult name is a unique creation, though it might reflect the names of respected individuals or other family members. Little distinction exists between male names and female names; the groupings here reflect only general tendencies. In addition, every elf bears a family name, typically a combination of other Elvish words. Some elves travelling among humans translate their family names into Common, but others retain the Elvish version.
Unlike other Elves, Ilvanya elves have their hidden name. These names apply to an alternate personality that Ilvanya elves hide. These alternate names tend to only be used when the elf knows there true identity won't be revealed. These alternate names tend to based around activities they are infamous for in Elvish.

Relationship Ideals

Marriage is typically reserved for political gain in Orstad culture, both among the nobility and commoners, it's also common for polyamorous marriages of up to three spouses of both genders with the highest-ranking member of the marriage being at its head.
It's also extremely common for members of nobility having large harems, typically made up of commoners or slaves.

Average Technological Level

Despite having much of its technology from the Old empire being lost, the modern Orstad has extremely advanced magi-tech after the current emperor Aeceran the 2nd of Orstad began to push for Artificer magic instead of wizardry.

Common Dress Code

While much of Orstad cultures clothing and architecture is similar to the traditional elvish design, it has an emphasis on rare items to show wealth and importance.
While this may sound harmless at first, the concern comes from where some materials come from, as Ilvanyan elves have no qualm with using materials from sentient creatures. Things like centaur leather, Troll hide, Drider Silk, Trox Exoskeleton and Trix Feathers are all considered valuable for clothing.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

One of the most important traditions of the Orstad is Mereth va Cendelë. A twice-yearly festival to celebrate both the founding of the Orstad empire and the Birthday of the Orstad emperor.
During the festival, nobles and commoners alike wear fantastical masks and throw lavish parties. It's also during this time that Ilvanya elves use their hidden name so that during this festive they may indulge in any base desire they wish, hidden by their mask and hidden name.
Large hedonistic parties are thrown among the nobility and any commoner daring enough to sneak into them. However during these celebrations, many make political moves in the way of assassinations, impregnations, and backroom dealings that will have no consequences so long as it is done before the next sunrise.

History

It's commonly believed that the original elves of Orstad were, in fact, Moon elves, however, after the Tear the Orstad elves underwent changes due to prolonged exposure with the Faewild.
It's believed that this direct contact with the Faewild resulted in a high risk of madness in many Ilvanya and resulted in the eventual cruelty and violence associated with the Orstad culture.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Ilvanya elves are almost universally hated by every other race of Vesax. The only races that commonly deal with the Ilvanya are the more primitive races that never dealt with the Old Empire.
