Coronation
A Coronation occurs in the rare event that a human manages to kill a Monarch. After this, the killer experiences extreme, immobilizing pain throughout their body, particularly strong in a certain area that changes from person to person. This area develops some sort of marking that is generally believed to be a Risen language, but it has not been translated. Usually, the person passes out during the process, but once it is complete, they are considered one of the Crowned and gain the power of the Monarch, known as a decree.
Interestingly, although Coronations usually overpower any semblance of magic, if the magic is powerful enough or central to one's identity, it will end up boosting the power of the magic instead of giving the affected a decree.
Transmission & Vectors
Whoever deals the killing blow on a Monarch goes through the coronation. It doesn't matter who did the most damage, only who did the damage last before its heart stopped beating. It's an entirely magical transmission, invisible to the eye. The amount of time it takes for the Coronation to begin is greatly inconsistent, but it ranges between immediate to a few hours.
Causes
The moment the Monarch Risen is killed, its decree does not disappear. Instead, it goes to whoever killed it. There has been speculation as to how this works, but it is not yet understood.
Symptoms
A Coronation causes such potent pain that none to date have gone through it without passing out. After the pain, a marking remains on the part of the body that experienced the most of it.
History
The first case is likely that of The Pride of Axrigh, but it was not yet understood, nor did anyone even know about it until the current year when she revealed it to get into the Legion. The next was Addison Ross's, which was originally viewed as the first.
