Ebon Bastion
This dark stone tower marks the highest point in the city of Garrison.
Purpose / Function
As the military outpost created here grew into a trading hub, Imperial engineers were sent from the capital to construct this tower. It was not only meant to demonstrate the strength and power of the Alorian Empire, but also to provide a more permanent bulwark against those who would want to strike at this remote settlement. According to legend, the tower has never been taken in a siege. In 295 BF the tower was adopted as the sigil for Garrison representing the resilience of its people. Today it is emblazoned on the shields and heraldry of many who call the city home.
Alterations
In the early days, the tower stood alone atop the hill with no buildings around it so as to make attackers vulnerable as they approached the structure. As the city grew, the hill was transformed into the fortress that it is today with high walls and various outbuildings that serve the military and city watch.
Architecture
The bastion is constructed of the mysterious black stone that only the Alorians seemed to know how to craft. It is square with no visible seams or mortared joints and is surprisingly resistant to the elements and to physical damage. There are many windows on all sides of the structure but these are constructed from a material that is as transparent as glass, but as strong as metal; yet another mystery left behind by the ancient Alorians.
