Gale Frostbeard

Gurnek "Gale" Frostbeard is the head of the Silverwind Guild, one of the most prominent guilds in Ironholt dedicated to the art of magical smithing. The guild specializes in enchanting weapons and armor with elemental properties, such as frost-infused blades that can freeze enemies in their tracks. The art of frostforging was developed jointly by the Silverwind Guild and researchers within the elven Icequill family. Due to this, Gale has numerous connections with elven experts beyond Ironholt's borders.   Gale is a genderqueer dwarf, identifying as neither fully male nor female. They prefer the neutral pronouns "they/them" and have worked to make the Silverwind Guild a welcoming space for similar dwarves, pushing back against traditional gender roles within the guild. This was initially a challenging position to be in when they came out. Dwarven culture is highly binary, preferring members to pick one of two genders. Gale’s refusal to conform to gender expectations has made them an icon within the kingdom, especially among younger generations of dwarves.   As a master smith and mage, Gale is extremely influential in Ironholt's magic-forging industry. Their guild plays a key role in providing magical weapons to the Ironwatch, and they have a close relationship with the Ironwatch General, Renny Ironstrike, who supports Gale’s vision for a more open and diverse Ironholt. Additionally, as leadership in Ironholt is a form of meritocracy, Gale is influential in politics as well. Gale is also a staunch ally of Queen Aelina Stoneforge, using their position to advocate for the rights of marginalized groups within Ironholt.
