Frese

My mama told me when I was young
We're almost superstars
That was definitely a lie
We're just frese after all.
The Frese are the empire's lower class, in many regards a completely different culture from the Nobility.

Rights

Little more than slaves they are not afforded any of the rights that nobles are. Most notably, Frese are not given the right to officially own anything. However the fact that they are commonly allowed to use and carry that which a lord gives them as a loan, little mind is paid to their possessions. It is however uncommon for Frese to carry around any more currency than would be perhaps given to them for certain tasks. A rule of thumb among them is that one shouldn't ever carry more than a clip worth of money, usually in Tikks. The Wet Markets are however the obvious exception to this within Sorenel.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Whatever the parents or guardians can come up with really. Some examples are:
  • Alydna
  • Hireba
  • Mikkela

Masculine names

Same as above:
  • Brinnste
  • Cheren
  • Ricastly

Family names

Frese rarely adopt family names. Unlike for Nobles, one name usually suffices. No one cares too much about Frese pedigree, and when they do the differences are apparent by the tone of skin. When one does need to be picked out of a crowd of similarly named people*, an adjective or nickname does the trick.
While not as common, yet certainly present is the practice that Frese communities or extended families bestow a family name upon themselves. This functions largely as a method of raising a sense of belonging and loyalty among members, but also as a kind of cultural rebellion in light of the class segregation.

Culture

Common Dress code

Unlike Nobility, Frese pay very little mind to what they cover themselves with. Among themselves, so long as it's something, there is basically no dress code. Of course some emulate noble society, the females donning long, sleeve-like gloves and never being caught without a shawl, while the males wear long trousers and cover their feet. This adherence to values is indeed well seen among nobility, so it is not uncommon for Frese who deal with their betters a great deal to adopt it to please them.
