Disaster / Destruction
An abandoned, derelict leisure station fell out of Trian orbit with some of the debris raining down over the main shipyard at Newbury. Significant infrastructural damage was incurred but quick thinking individuals on the ground managed to limit the spread of the resulting fires.
An unexpected occurance today as the otherwise sunny skies over Newbury were suddenly filled with smoke trailing, firey debris as an abandoned leisure station from the mid-Sibran era collided with one of the planetary defense rings in low Trian orbit. Although much of the space station was quickly vapourized on contact with the ring, several large pieces of debris managed to survive reentry including the station's apparent command centre which unfortunately made landfall on the primary shipyard of Newbury's port. Several docks were destroyed along with one freighter that happened to be docked at the time and casualties are estimated to be between 20-40 longshorers. Fires from the wreck started to spread to adjacent buildings but quick-thinking by people on the ground, and apparently a mechanical assistant, managed to contain the blaze to merely two of the nearby administrative buildings. It is unknown what triggered the station to suddenly shift from a previously stable orbit but experts currently hypothesize an undetected asteroid collision to be the likely cause. Local authorities would like to assure the public that they are making a full effort to get the affected docks up and running again with hopefully minimal delays to the current customs schedule.
