Amphrakia

(Am · fra · kee · uh) "Swim Drake"   Beast descendants of Draconids that adapted to heavily aquatic habitats while maintaining some terrestrial capabilities. Their trade off being loss of overall agility and intelligence for better survivability in changing environments.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Most amphrakia have short, yet powerful, limbs with a stocky framed body. They usually will have a large mouth in comparison to their body, and either a shortened tail, or one that is flattened out for easier movement underwater. Their scales can sometimes be so small that some may assume their skin to be fully smooth, but that may very in some species. Though, their hides are often covered in some type of membrane for addaption to harsh climates.

Genetics and Reproduction

All lay eggs, but some may have a more rubbery shell, as opposed to the rigid shells of others.

Ecology and Habitats

Adoring moist habitats, they often take up home in lakes, rivers, swamps, springs, etc. Some species prefer mud and silt based waterbeds, while others take advantage of rocky riverbeds or mountainous waterfalls. Extreme temperatures often allow them to take up residence in places other creature may find too inhospitable.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Most are carnivorous, and are quite suited for ambush tactics.

Additional Information

Domestication

Some very rare instances of species seem to be feral versions of domesticated bloodlines from more ancient times. Some people have started the painstaking process of rehabilitating their breeds back into servitude.
