Regalcrest's Chamber

The Royal Quarters of Nerodil

Regalcrest's Chamber is the royal bedchamber in Nerodil, where the King and Queen sleep each night. It is considered by some to be the best defended room in Northern Elone, if not the entire Kingdom of Man, as no one is allowed in save for the royal family. No advisors, members of the court, or even members of the Nerodil Guard are allowed inside, save for the Captain unless explicitly allowed by the King or Queen.

Though Regalcrests have not always been Kings, the bedchamber's name remained. They were not the first Kings, that honor went to the famed Gellark Lionrage who was responsible for founding the Kingdom of Man, but their dynasty quickly became synonymous with the throne.   The name was only used colloquially when Dario Dastel took over Nerodil during the Age of Plague, but it remained, and when a Regalcrest took the throne again, it was one of Dathan Regalcrest's first orders of business to officially dub the room "Regalcrest's Chamber" in one of his many acts designed to convince everyone that the Regalcrests were the only ones worthy of being King of Mankind.   When Timar Forestarm overthrew the Regalcrest dynasty, supplanting them with Forestarms, he did not attempt to change the name of the room. He wanted people to remember the Regalcrests, whose actions in the previous generation had been reviled across the kingdom, and he wanted the room to serve as one of the many reminders of their villainy, as did other things once set up by Dathan.   Timar would say of the chamber, his role in overthrowing the Regalcrests, and his holding onto the throne despite not belonging on it (all of which he considered to be tied to the name of his bed chambers):
"I intend to keep those reminders forever: I sit on a stolen throne. I have only trace amounts of royal blood flowing through my veins. I was not born to wear this crown.
But when I think of those who came before me, those whose blood was exclusively royal, those who were fitted for crowns every year of their lives, whose buttocks made an indent on that throne of Nerodil, I thank the Gods that I am not a Regalcrest. I thank the Gods that I am who I am. I thank the Gods that I am able to assist my people from this position.
And I wake up every day reminding myself who I could be instead... and then I thank the Gods again that I am not."
— Timar Forestarm
The other quarters found within the castle in Nerodil are paltry things compared to Regalcrest's Chamber. One could not even call them the same thing, for this chamber is so lavish and mysterious that it seems to be a different type of room than anything else in any building in the world. Some guests allowed inside have even gone as far as to call it Heaven, and rumor has it that Dario Dastel took the throne after the death of Joziah Regalcrest, partially because he wanted to spend at least one night in the bed there, and that he then grew addicted to its luxury and remained King until his death.

Room Fit for a King

The room itself is more than just its defenses, secrets, and names. It is fully furnished and decorated, and while the secrets of the room prevent full dimensions being revealed to the public, some information is known.

In noble circles, there is a rumor that the room has three beds: one large enough for the King and Queen (as well as, most likely, at least four other adults to sleep in if so desired), and one for the King and Queen if they decide they'd like to sleep alone that night (also large enough to have at least two others in it). The room is large enough that such a thing doesn't matter much.   It has three chairs as well: one faces the large bed, while the other two sit around a table where they can play games like Yuf.   Paintings line the walls from many of the greatest artists mankind has ever had (and even some foreign artists, if rumors are to be believed). The most famous one is from Chaze Redfury, a political prisoner held by Timar Forestarm when he first took the throne, freed by his son and allowed to return to curating her art museum, as well as running her late husband's restaurant Forest After Dark. As a sign of good faith, Timar's son Forol Forestarm made it one of his first acts as King to commission some of her art to hang in the castle, to prove he was different from his father.   As for other paintings, we can do no more than guess, though one can assume a copy of Justice Hurts sits in the room (or at least somewhere in the castle).   The room does have windows, though it overlooks a private courtyard and sits at an angle where no one in the courtyard can see anything but what is directly next to the window. Privacy is of the utmost importance to the royal family, and it also prevents them from being assassinated in their sleep, though the heavy guard also helps with such a thing. Still, one can never be too careful.
