Saedoryn

Once a proud warrior of the Golden Five, this ancient brass Dragon has retreated from the world. His voice is calm, his words are slow, and his gaze lingers long on ruins and sky. Though deeply wounded by the loss of his kin and the fall of the elves, he has not given in to bitterness. He cloaks Nytheriel in Illusion not only to hide it—but to preserve its memory.

Characteristics

Physical features

His brass scales are tarnished with age, shaded green and dull gold. Great battle scars stretch across his flanks. One horn is cracked at the tip, and his wings carry long tears that never healed cleanly. His eyes glow soft amber, deep with memory. His voice is low and dry, like wind across sand.

Mental traits

  • Personality traits: Patient, introspective, and endlessly curious. Enjoys conversation, even with strangers—so long as they are not fools.
  • Ideals: Peace must be protected—sometimes by fire.
  • Bonds: He mourns the elves of Lorien, especially their queen, with whom he shared a deep friendship. He also honors the memory of the other Golden Five, especially those who he believe perished.
  • Flaws: He isolates himself too much and assumes the worst of dragonkind—especially those who serve Fury. His grief weighs on him and makes him slow to trust others.

Abilities

Though old, he is not weak. His breath weapon sears minds with confusion. He fights with illusions, conversation, and layered traps. In combat, he will fly high, harass, and outlast his foes. He avoids killing when possible but shows no mercy to those aligned with the Cult of Dragon.   His illusions extend across the entire ruin of Nytheriel. He can sense most who enter, and can shape what they see, hear, and even smell. Some say he once bent a storm with a whisper.

Relationship

He hates the Dragon Cult, and despises Fury for her role in the Draco-Giant war. He tolerates the kobolds in his mine, who treat him as a god and historian.   Doraka, an ancient friend and a silver dragon sometimes visits.

Activities

He spends most of his time meditating, tending to the illusions that protect Nytheriel, and reading or speaking to the kobolds. He keeps a mental record of history and dreams often of the Feywild and the old songs of Lorien. He sometimes composes riddles or teachings, which the kobolds pass down.

Possessions

A collection of Lorien-made artifacts: carved crystal, harp-strings of moon-thread, fragments of magical tomes

Lair

He lairs in the shattered temple at the heart of Nytheriel. The temple’s high dome is broken, but illusion makes it seem whole. Pools of spring water run through the floor. He sleeps atop a bed of moss and ruined stone, not gold. His presence keeps the ruin quiet and still.

Wealth

He hoards stories, not gold. His treasure includes scrolls, enchanted maps, and memory crystals taken from elven archives. He has some coin and relics from past ages, but most are untouched.

History

He rose as one of the Golden Five, a band of metallic dragons who led the charge against Vecna during the Lich War. He fought at the fall of Nytheriel and wept at its reclaiming. He stayed close to Lorien for centuries, drawn to its wisdom and peace.   When the elves fled to the Feywild, he did not follow. He lingered in their ruins, remembering them.   Then came the war between dragons and giants. The destruction sickened him. He saw what became of his kind—those who followed Fury, or gave up their oaths. He turned away from dragonkind, abandoned the war, and hid Nytheriel behind illusion.   He has remained there since, silent and watchful. His name is spoken only in stories now—though a few scholars remember him as Thazmyrion, the Echo of the Sun.
