With the countless
Time spent around the keep, the worker started to build small wooden house around, slowly gathering and forming a small settlement. With the keep mostly finished, and the discovery of an underground water source, Nesiven started a wine production. The money generated attracted more people, the village growing into a small town.

Manticore
early 1137 AD
Recent changes to the coastline south of the Roaring Plains have drawn many adventurers to the region. Herds of beasts and monsters are shifting to adapt, terrifying locals and creating new opportunities for hunters and mercenaries.
On the road to the Roaring Plains, a small village has grown in importance. Its inn bustles with life as adventurers rent rooms, bringing coin to local hands. Questioned by one of the few town guards at the gate, four adventurers meet for the first time: Shelby, Aukan Frostwolf, Grog orseskull, and Joel.
Stopping by the general store for supplies, the group stumbles upon a heated exchange between a
Halfling and an
Elf.
I was a chimera! Swooped out of the sky and nearly torched the whole crop! I took a few shots at it and it lit off into the woods but it'll be back
When I agreed to the gig you said I might be dealing with coyotes or maybe an Owlbear at worst. You didn't mention i'de be fighting a three-headed fire-breathing monstrosity.
THe halfling this charred woman is upbraiding wrings his hat in his hands, then stares blankly across the town square, as if he's watching his entire future dissipate like a morning fog. He sees the group observing and immediatly runs their ways
Excuse me! Hi! Yes! Are you.. are you all... adventurers? I.. I.. I need help! I have coin! Supplies! I.. have any of you ever.. killed a chimera.
The halfling, Ben Dabbler, approaches the adventurers with a job offer, while the elf, Cyndi Trueshot, stands guard over his field. He wants them to hunt down a chimera that tried to burn his crops. He’s growing a new magical grain, meant to better feed livestock.
The party bargains for a higher reward, settling on 240 gold pieces. Cyndi cuts in, urging them to demand more and warning them how dangerous chimeras are. She tells them how the beast swooped from the sky, breathing fire and clawing at her before she shot it twice. Despite the risks, the group accepts.
Unable to talk them out of it, Cyndi gives them a recipe for a paste called Chimera’s Bane, meant to make the creature think twice about eating them. Armed with this, they head to Scribbles & Nibs, the local shop for magical components.
The shop is cluttered with bags, pots, and baskets piled high. A lone crow watches from a table as a voice calls down from upstairs:
Hello! Sorry—be down in a jiff!
While they wait, the orcish barbarian tries to pet the crow to block its view, hoping the others might steal something. But there’s nothing worth taking in the mess. At last, Haloreth Emberwhite, a disorganized wizard and retired adventurer, comes down and greets them. Shelby hands him the notes and asks if he has the ingredients. Emberwhite finds most of them, but not two: muckroot and
Goblin knot. He guesses they’re misspellings—he knows of milkroot and Goblin snot, foul-smelling ingredients rarely used. The group asks him to brew the paste if they find the missing items. Emberwhite agrees, noting the recipe resembles one used to keep griffons from biting their harnesses. He also offers 50 gold pieces for any chimera eggs they find—or 5 gold for eggshells.
The party sets off east to the river where goblins are rumored to live—likely sources for Goblin snot and milkroot. As they follow the riverbank, they find both signs of the plant and goblins nearby.
Two goblins spot them first, shouting they’ve trespassed on goblin land. Shelby bargains for Goblin snot and goblin nut while the
Tiefling sorcerer distracts them with illusions, letting the orc slip away to gather milkroot. Just as things seem settled—and the party notices a large egg carried by the goblin leader—Cyndi appears out of nowhere and drops one of the goblins with two arrows.
The fight that follows drags the adventurers in, much to their annoyance. Once the goblins are dealt with, they confront Cyndi. She shrugs it off, saying goblins aren’t worth bargaining with and should just be killed—an attitude the group dislikes. To make amends, she offers to pay for their drinks at the Busy Bee, the local tavern.
They stop by Scribbles & Nibs to drop off the components and sell the egg they took from the goblins. At the Busy Bee, Aukan challenges Cyndi to a knife-throwing contest and loses five gold pieces. They also meet Cyndi’s adventuring crew, the Low Elves, who invite them to choose a name for their own party. They settle on the Nutlings, a joke about Shelby getting the “goblin nut” off a dead goblin.
Ben shows up, and Cyndi slips away—she was meant to guard his field. Ben squeezes through the crowd, praising the Nutlings for gathering the ingredients and begging them to hurry up and deal with the chimera. They promise to hunt it tomorrow and turn in for the night, with Ben paying for their rooms.
At dawn, Ben bursts into the inn shouting that his fields are burning. The Nutlings rush out, wake Emberwhite for the paste, and run to the fields—only to find no chimera in sight. Instead, they see the Low Elves harvesting the crops by torchlight.
A tense standoff follows. Just as both sides are about to clash, an enraged chimera mother crashes down from the sky, torching the wagon in a single breath.
Forced to work together, the Nutlings and the Low Elves bring the beast down. Shelby grabs Cyndi as a hostage, demanding answers. Realizing a fight among themselves would cost more lives, both sides lay down their arms.
Ben and Emberwhite arrive and hear what happened. To show good faith, Cyndi reveals that Ben’s crop—Heroes’ Wort—has an even stronger effect when smoked. With this new secret, Ben expects to make a fortune and rewards both groups with a bonus, which they split.
