Mount Olympus

Mount Olympus stands alone in the Silver Sea, its peaks vanishing into the ether. four broad plateaus rise like terraced crowns, each ringed with temples, statues, and gardens of impossible order. The mountain’s summit lies hidden above the clouds—an abode of gods, unreachable by mortal steam.     The single sacred mountain of Mount Olympus rises from a shining Silver Sea to heights barely visible and utterly incomprehensible, with four plateaus marking its four heavenly layers. The plane is the model of justice and order, of celestial grace and endless mercy, where Archons and champions of good guard against incursions of evil. It is one of the few places on the planes where travelers can let down their guard. Its inhabitants strive constantly to be as righteous as possible. Countless creatures aim to reach the highest and most sublime peak of the mountain, but only the purest souls can. Gazing toward that peak fills even the most jaded of travelers with awe.

Geography

From sea level, the mountain soars steeply to four major plateaus. Each level holds its own landscape—marble arches, sacred springs, orchards heavy with fruit, and paths paved in shining stone. Above the fourth plateau, sheer rock walls climb until swallowed by heaven.   Each of the layers is referred to by their name as well as a more general reference; for example, Dikaiosyne is the name of the first layer, but it is also referred to as the justice Heaven. The more evocative titles give a good overview of the landscape properties.   four layers:
  • Dikaiosyne, the first heaven, the justice heaven.
  • Phronesis, the second heaven, the prudence heaven.
  • Andreia, the third heaven, the fortitude heaven.
  • Sophrosyne, the fourth heaven, the temperance heaven.

Getting There

Travel from the outside world reaches only Dikaiosyne, the first heaven. Portals appear as glowing silver disks, often in consecrated temples or lawful good monasteries. These gates open to pilgrims of pure heart. When Lawful Good mortals die, their souls may also be drawn here and reborn as Archons.

Traveling Around

Within each layer, travelers find broad, well-worn paths and unobstructed terrain. The Silver Sea offers calm waters and gentle breezes. Inhabitants welcome non-hostile visitors and readily offer guidance.   Ascending between layers requires two things: a noble desire and the Trial of Enlightenment. The mountain guides away selfish intruders. Only those with righteous intent may even find the path. Each higher layer demands a more exacting trial, especially near Sophrosyne, the fourth heaven.

Creatures & Denizens

Powerful & Mighty

Mount Olympus houses the mighty forces of law and goodness across the realms. Many lawful gods maintain estates on these layers. They rarely leave their domains, yet they may receive sincere travelers in formal settings.

Denizens

Almost all native beings align with goodness. Archons, the celestial warriors of Mount Olympus, stand to serve the gods. These beings uphold the virtues of the plane.
The term angel is often used as a broad label for celestial beings aligned with good. However, archons are the true exemplars of lawful good. They embody both moral virtue and unwavering order, standing as champions not only of righteousness, but of structure and discipline.

Features

Blessed Beneficence

In contrast to the dissonance experienced by evil creatures here, good creatures are literally blessed by the pervasive beneficence of the plane. Creatures of good alignment gain the benefit of the bless spell as long as they remain on the plane. In addition, finishing a long rest on the plane grants a good creature the benefit of a lesser restoration spell.

Blessed Radiance

The grace of the Upper Planes touches this region. Consider rolling on the Blessed Radiance Effects table when the following circumstances occur in the region:
  • A creature succeeds on a saving throw compelled by the abilities of a fiend or an undead
  • A creature is the target of a cleric or paladin spell of 3rd level or higher
  • A creature scores a critical hit against a fiend or an undead
  • A creature experiences an epiphany or inspiring triumph in the service of righteousness or in defiance of wickedness
