Eldar Ascendancy

Structure

The Monarch is chosen by the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, without regard for genetic relatedness. The Enchanted forest is ruled by means of a highly-insular caste system composed on pureblooded elves born inside of the Forest. The Noble Caste, the High Elves, is the most powerful; followed by the Sky Elves, the Priest and Wizard Caste; the Fire Elves, Warrior Caste; The Water Elves, the healer and merchant class; and, finally the Wood Elves, the Worker Class.

Public Agenda

The Enchanted Forest has sought perfection for the Elvish people and other magical creatures in isolation ever since winning its freedom from the Reymal Empire. Few outsiders are permitted in the wood except for along the heavily tariffed Elfroads and the rivers that run through the land. The Elves of the Enchanted forest have isolated themselves in order to preserve their culture, trying to find redemption for what they view as the decadent excesses of the ancient Eldar Empire. As such, they will ignore requests for aid from other remnants, though they might well seek to reclaim nearby lost territories such as the Green Hills or the Southwood. In the meantime, the await such a day as the Shadow or the True Emperors should be born again, to return them to glory.

Demography and Population

Children are considered communal property, with loyalty to the community and one’s caste considered more important than loyalty due to blood. Many parents hide their identity from their children once they have been weaned, preferring instead to allow them to play freely, and to be a part of the community, being raised by Wood Elves. The conception of legitimate children is strictly regulated by Sky Elves, and until recently, very few legitimate children were allowed. This changed with the grievous defeat suffered in the Southwood War, with the Sky Elves now demanding far more new elves to replace those who were lost in the war.

The elvish population is largely upheld by a large caste of so-called "Elffriends," who are chattel slaves. The Eldar believe that all non-elf races are degenerated versions of Elfkind, and the Sky Elves are seeking to restore them to that state by generations of selective breeding and magical experimentation.

Territories

The Enchanted Forest holds the Enchanted Forest north of the River Nevar. Though it still lays claim to the Southwood, it exerts minimal control over the region, which the empire has occupied for several years, though this admittedly short-term in the perspective of elves.

Military

The military of the Enchanted forest is composed of those elves who are part of the warrior caste, which represents roughly 30% of the elvish population when the population at full capacity. Since elves reproduce slowly, however, the Enchanted Army is still small, and more elves than typical are being appointed to the warrior caste.

Religion

Though the official religion of the Enchanted Forest remains Old Elvish, the Church of Kol has found many secret and ardent worshippers, largely from the lower castes, especially among the Elffriends.

Foreign Relations

The Enchanted Forest eschews diplomatic relations in exchange for isolation. However, it has a special trade and social relationship with the Kingdom of Nevaris, and allows discounted tariffs for dwarven traders as part of the Treaty following the War on the Green Hills.

Agriculture & Industry

Elvish agriculture is conducted in cooperation with the land, leading to a population density much lower than other neighboring Kingdoms. The most organized agriculture takes place in orchards, and through hunting and gathering. Mining is taboo to elves, so weapons made from animal parts and wood are thus much more popular in the Enchanted Forest.

Trade & Transport

Because all trade between the Dwarkun Empire and the other peoples of Arstol needs to flow through the Dwarkun Empire, tariffs on the trade flowing along the elfroads and down rivers like the Nevar represents the primary source of income for the Enchanted Forest.

Education

All elven children are taken into the custody of the state at the age of 6, where they are taught under the water elves the basics of life and knowledge. From 14 to 16, they are trained in some of the more general tasks of each discipline and witness their tasks. At the age of 17, they are tasked with completing their Great Trial, and their performance, attributes, and the preferences they exhibit in this task determine their station for the rest of their long life.

Major Exports
Elvish jewelry usually represents the trend-setter for jewelry throughout the North, the Empire, and the Marches. Some warriors and adventurers who value finesse over power or durability in weapons prefer elvish weapons or armor styles, making smithing another major industry for the Enchanted Forest.
Major Imports
Because mining is viewed as taboo, the biggest elvish import is metal for the forging of elvish weaponry and jewelry. Metal is only harvested within the Forest when readily present in natural caves on or near the surface. Many of the greatest sources for elvish metals were lost along with the Southwood during the Imperial Reconquest.
