Edge-Watch

What a town, no place in Thalasia matches it for peace, quietude or relaxation. There's many a hamlet that would embrace the chance to grow as Edge-Watch has.
  • Thalasian's living in Oceanabris reflect on the peace and tranquility represented by Edge-Watch.
The Edge-Watch is a town in Thalasia that is set on it's second north-most island and stares from the edge of the island out to sea. It's name is derived from centuries ago when there was a belief that the world was flat and many believed that living in this part of Thalasia brought them spiritually close to the edge of the world... not realising they were simply viewing Epizonia from afar. Edge-Watch is a generally wealthy populace and is a good looking and aesthetically pleasing landscape that many move to to live a quiet life in. It has also worked to include more families for quiet living and has become a space of quietude and bliss far from the fear and functionality of the rest of Thysia.   Individuals that migrate to Edge-Watch however, are often seen as outsiders and not made to feel TRULY welcome. This is due to the tight-knit and old community in Edge-Watch who are distrusting of newcomers and especially nervous around adventurers and individuals representing the strange or unique.   Edge-Watch has also become a space of superstition and storytelling in their own sub-culture.

Demographics

The population are generally human, Gnome and halfling and, most importantly, have plain and generally unremarkable soul arms befitting an ancestry of relaxation and peace.

Government

Burgomaster Howton runs the town on a day-to-day basis and took the role from his father as the burgomasters have been the Howton family for centuries now. Howton liaises with The Republic of Thalasia to ensure the town is contributing to the democracy of the nation of Thalasia.

Defences

Edge-Watch has a small guard group that consist of a small police force with limited training.

Infrastructure

The town is self-sufficient but rather basic with no magitek possessed by them and a focus on avoiding magic. This leads many tourists and visitors to see Edge-Watch as a quaint and old fashioned space... which is admittedly only half untrue. The lack of individuals that leave the town and return there also contributes to this detachment from the rest of the world and it's aspects.

Points of interest

The temple of The Material's Children is present in the town, though not quite as resplendent as other temples across Thalasia.   Additionally, the Burgomaster's hut is the largest house in Edge-Watch. Showing their high status.    Apart from that, there are local farm shops and a single tavern called The Rising Sun that gives rooms to travelers passing through and acts as a gathering point for the people of Edge-Watch to hold events and meet one another.

Tourism

Tourists visit Edge-Watch on occassion and many even consider moving there (in the same way many visit Cornwall and consider staying but rarely do). However, Edge-Watch's distrust and cold reception to visitors often means very few commit to staying there unless they are truly willing to immerse themselves in the people and culture.

Architecture

Edge-Watch use basic thatched buildings made with the resources at their own disposal.
