Zarbian Harkas

The Zarbian harki is a subspecies of Harkas that have evolved to live on the ice giant of the Beta Targos System, called Zarbarax.

Zarbarax was the last planet of the system to receive life. It features the extreme high pressure conditions of Jyara as well as the extreme cold seen on Glais, so any creature living on the world would need an extreme crush and gravity resistance, resistance to cold (which encourages developing a smaller surface area) and flight. Zarbian harki have wings, which significantly increases their surface area which can make them colder. To counter this, they must have smaller wings which inhibits flight, so they are quite slow. The low energy levels also means that it is difficult for the food chain energy producers to produce energy from solar radiation, which leads to a lower population for all species. Zarbian harki cannot reproduce as fast as that of other harkas subspecies. It was very difficult for the zarbian harki to obtain enough energy to leave this very heavy planet, and it mostly requires them to use energy received from space. This made it impossible for them to attack any spacefaring enemies during wars, but they were also safe from being attacked. Instead, the zarbians fought wars between each other until they unified, shortly before the arrival of the HF. Furthermore, zarbians would be prey to most other spacefaring species due to their small size. All of this makes them one of the least powerful species of harkas in the system, even in current times.  

The ice giant does have a significant abundance of heavier elements such as oxygen and carbon, so there are a lot of nutrients available, especially from the radiation from the star. Some organisms burn part of the atmosphere for energy while collecting the gas to grow. 

More advanced technologies were developed over time. With the arrival of fusion reaction purposed organisms, they became much more powerful but by the time they obtained this technology, most other harkas cultures were already using them for several years.
