Jyaran Harkas

A subspecies of Harkas who have evolved to live on the gas giant Jyara.

The harki are a very adaptive and malleable group of species. They have been able to settle on and adapt to the conditions of the gas giant of the Beta Targos System, Jyara. After establishing a biosphere on Jyara, or helping to do that, they have provided themselves with a food source on the gas giant itself and they found that they could remain on Jyara, safe from predators. 

Because the gas giant gets much more dense at lower depths, the harki can actually float on the gas giant and sleep on the clouds. The altitude they sleep at is known as their 'sleep depth'. For this to work, they need an incredible crush resistance to prevent themselves being crushed by the gas giant. They can expend energy to fly at higher altitudes to an extent, without purposed organisms. The radiators have turned into wings allowing the harki to guide themselves through the atmosphere and take flight.

Much later, the biosphere they added and purposed organisms they created caused the upper layers of the gas giant to become dangerous to the harki. They created predator species which would try to feed on the harki in those layers. They later evolved to dive into the harkas sleep depth.

Later, the jyaran harki speciated yet again and a lineage which can reach extremely low depths has developed. They are able to enter the metallic hydrogen layers. These even more extreme conditions guarantee safety from predators, and they can continuously build purposed organisms without threats. The very extreme conditions prevent them from engineering organisms larger than themselves. Even the harki themselves at these altitudes have been massively reduced in size and their bodies are placed under high stress especially during storms. Because of this, it is common that any families that form would be separated shortly after forming.

The various cultures of the gas giant had difficulty with revisiting space. A creature would have to retain some of the gas giant atmosphere within itself while itself dealing with the problems of heat, lack of air and the immense Δv requirements to leave the gas giant. However, the spacefaring harki also had immense difficulty reaching the jyarans because almost anything they could create would be crushed under the immense gravity and pressure.

This subspecies is significant for being the one to invent fusion organisms, able to convert light elements like hydrogen, as well as used nutrients, into large amounts of food. This is the Jyara Fusion Station 1 project.
